Christmas gold in the kettle

The Christmas kettles from the Salvation Army folks turned brighter here with the collection tally showing 3 gold eagles.
News story.

I've heard of this in another community in the past but can't remember where.

Wasn't me, but Santa, I can explain!
Every day is a gift.

I think I remember reading a story about someone doing this in New York City, as well.

Check out the Southern Gold Society

  • This wonderful bit of charity has become a tradition in the Springfield Illinois area with several
gold coins turning up in the kettles every christmas season. The Salvation Army then auctions
the coins in January, I believe. This gives others the chance to overbid for the coins and make yet
another contribution. I believe the people at The Gold Center in Springfield (great place, by the way)
helps the SA with the auction and appraisals. I believe this is also donated. I hope this continues
    for a long time.

    HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
