My recent submissions results

Since everyone else seems to be doing it here, I may as well join 'em...

I submitted a batch of coins through the economy service at Baltimore, and they were finally shipped 3 days ago. Man, oh, man, it is rough waiting that long for your results...

Ok, here's my batch (raw to NGC):
1. 1829 H10c LM-6.3, R.5, L-M Plate Coin, AU58 --> AU58
2. 1825 10c JR-1, R.4, ex-Logan, EF40 --> AU50
3. 1831 10c JR-6, R.3, JR Plate Coin, EF45 --> AU55
4. 1836 25c B-4, R.5, ex-Logan, VF20 --> F15
5. 1809 50c O-109, R-4, III Edge, ex-Logan, EF45 --> AU55
6. 1916 50c Walker, ICG MS62 --> MS64
7. 1916-D 50c Walker, MS62 --> A/T
8. 1918-S 50c, MS62 --> A/T
9. 1927-S 50c, ICG AU55 --> AU58
10. 1929-D 50c, ICG AU55 --> AU58

All of the Capped Bust material are from the Russ Logan collection. I was trying to form a C.B. type set in his honor. image

As for the two A/T'ed coins, I wasn't surprised. I *hoped* that they'd get slabbed, but... BTW, I didn't do anything to the coins aside from leaving it out in the open to air and get some color. I mean, we do this every summer to ourselves. Why not with the coins too?

Also, I think my 1916-P is also toned. And, that got slabbed...

    Nice coins and grades, were the 16D and 18S raw when you acquired them?

    Do you feel they were graded right? Just wondering... I'm probably going to "make the move" to NGC.

    yes, they were raw and untoned. i've had them for several years. i have a full run of walkers, and only recently have i considered slabbing more of the early dates. the icg coins were slabbed a long time ago. oddly enough, i never looked at the coin's grades when i bought them. i just cared about their eye appeal, and i bought them all raw initially.

    and, i forgot to mention, my russ logan c.b. type set is complete. the large size 25c was slabbed on a diff invoice. i think it was graded by borckardt as ef40, and that's what it got slabbed as. (only, ngc forgot to pedigree it!)

    david,

    i can't say about the walkers, as i bought them so long ago that i just don't remember... i think i disagree with the 1916 grade. i seem to recall that it's very clean for a 62, but it wasn't fully struck. i think the coin is either a 63 or a 64, but i just don't really remember.

    as for my c.b. coins, i disagreed with many of the grades that borckardt assigned in the catalog. i felt that he was applying old-school JRCS grading stds, and that the mkt would grade 'em much higher in many cases. i guess ngc mainly agreed with me. i am disappointed w/ my small size 25c. i thought the coin's a solid VF. oh, well.

    EVP- nice results! especially since you thought the two had a chance of getting bagged for AT. You had several coins grade higher than you graded them at and that's a much nicer feeling than having them grade lower than expected. mike image
  • EVP- FANTASTIC results, as usual!! image

    DHeath, Russ, WingedLiberty & others- Do you notice that 3 ICG Walkers crossed to NGC at grades HIGHER than those assigned by ICG???

    It would seem we have found yet another Half Dollar, besides the Franklin, that ICG grades very strictly! Just an observation from a Cameo Franklin collector. image

    Actually, I did grade them higher; it was Mark Borckardt who graded them conservatively.

    Do you notice that 3 ICG Walkers crossed to NGC at grades HIGHER

    Not intending to pick nits here, but technically they were crackouts. I feel that there's something weird going on with crossovers, and that raw subs don't evoke this weirdness from the graders... BTW, the two AU58 Walkers I felt could have graded UNC. Long shot, but still possible...

    Oh, and, for those who bash ICG, this is an excellent example of buying the coin and not the holder. (I had those 3 graded by ICG in their early days when they were very conservative.)

  • EVP- Personally, I don't feel ICG's grading practices have become less conservative with coins like the Walker. I've bought a number of their Walkers with higher Cert. #'s (somewhat recent submissions) and they are awesome coins. All the servides have their mistakes. I have found the ICG classic coins to be accurately graded, and often undergraded, in the majority of reviews. Just my opinion. image
