S & G Coin Grading

Has anyone ever head of S & G coin grading. Take a look at ebay auction: Item # 3300654473. There are no close up scans but $99 can I go wrong? I think it boils down to: who is this grading service?

Looks like a acg slab with a custom label.

The cheek looks pretty good in the picture but a 1880-s in ms65 in a $90 coin retail so do what you want.

OK i will say it.. Basically i don't think this is a good deal.

The lady that runs the communications part of the business's name is Susan. I can't be sure, but I think his name is Guy Billings. It's been so long, I can't remember, but I think that's where the S&G comes from. I bought one coin from them and sent it back. They refunded all but the postage. If you think it's worth taking a chance, and being out the posyage and insurance both ways, go for it.

I've bought from S&G before, but not lately. Their customer service has always been good. They do, however, sell a ton of ACG stuff. Occasionally they will sell stuff slabbed other more reputable services. I've bought quite a few NGC coins from them over the years. Didn't I see an ad a year or so ago where ACG was offering to help set people up in the coin grading business. I think there may have even been a thread here about it. To me, this looks like and ACG slab with a S&G insert. I wouldn't go near that deal just because of the blatant conflict of interest. The fact that they are coy about the disclosure....they do so its graded by S&G, but they make it sound as if thats an independant group. They don't say...'graded by us as an ms65', which in fact is what is happening. They do offer a return so I guess if anyone wanted to take their chances they could get out of the deal without much trouble.

The letters ACG are on the bottom right corner of the slab.

Yes, Placid you are right, but then again I am not surprised, when the source is demonic, the results
cannot be that surprising.

Weren't S&G Grading just the ones we thought "rented" the ACG slab making unit. We had a tread not too long ago about that. Try a search. If my memory serves me, ACG even advertises on their website about renting theri unit. I would staty away!
