Has this ever happend to you?

I won an auction last night for $102.50. In the auction discription, the seller stated that postage/insurance would be $5 for orders up to $100 or $10 for orders over $100. So after the close of the auction, I e-mailed the seller to see if he'd be willing to send it insured for just the $100 and let me have the postage at $5. Today the seller e-mailed me back and said the postage was $10.

Ok, I'm no rocket scientist, but spending $5 to insure $2.50 seems... a little Bureaucratic.

I knew the terms and conditions before I placed the bid. And I got the coin at a bargain, so I have no room to complain. I just found it interesting that didnt give me the lower rate.

Looks like he/she wants to make up for the ebay fees with that one.

I've run stuff and many times had it end in a similar fashion. I've always emailed the winner with their total for the Lower coverage (like you requested) and asked them to let me know if they preferred to pay for the next bump up.

He doesn't seem to be very interested in the customer service end of selling. I'd have had no problem doing that for you if it were one of my auctions. Of course with me it's moot because, at that price level, my shipping would have been $3.95 anyway.

  • DAVID,

Shame on you! You have no reasonable expectation of this seller to try and make a deal with you after the deal was done. He clearly stated his shipping details, and buy you bidding over the $100, you accepted the extra consequence. For you to FRY this seller on this forum, and look for sympathy or whatever is beyond me.

Now was the seller concerned about your return business, probably not. So be it. Don't bid next time if the conditions of the sale do not meet your approval.

You are wrong, wrong, wrong by bringing this up on the forum. I think that it makes you look a bit coniving. You did the deal, Pay the dealer.

I know that it never hurts to ask, but you ask first, not after the deal. Do I think that the seller is a chit? YES, I do, but I would be embarassed of myself to put up this thread.

Have a great Holiday, and only buy auctions that you can live with!

Come on it was $2.50 over, any good seller would have had no problem making it $100 but 100 dollars worth of insurance for $2.50 is just slightly crazy

  • Russ,

You can take all the issue you want. HE is telling about a sorry azz seller that will not make a deal after the deal! That is the Fry. Whether he identifies the seller or not. My PMS are open and I would be glad to give you a call, if you want confirmation.

If you choose to be the defender of the boards, or the opinion censor, so be it. I stand by my statement. "You don't make deals after the DEAL".

I don't think that the seller did the right thing either, but in good faith, this buyer has no right to expect a different deal than he bid on!

Yep, and he said that in his post. Again, where exactly did he FRY anybody?

Confirmation of what? That we disagree? I already figured that out.

I don't think he's "FRYING" anyone he is just wondering if most sellers would go down in the shipping costs and just insure it for $100 instead of the $102.50. I think this is a perfectly ok question to ask the board.

For you to FRY this seller...

Ok, first, I didnt mention any names, so I dont see how I'm frying anyone. Second, I stated in my intial post, "I knew the terms and conditions before I placed the bid. And I got the coin at a bargain, so I have no room to complain. I just found it interesting that didnt give me the lower rate." This being the case, when you say, "He clearly stated his shipping details, and buy you bidding over the $100, you accepted the extra consequence. " You're being a bit redundant. It seems to me, you're arguing for the sake of arguing. My post was a post to see if anyone else out there has had similar experiences, not "fry" someone.

  • Biker,

I get my full quota of milk bones everyday. Everyone that wants to, can flame me for my opinion. I will not change it, or compromise. However I accept your right, as well as everone elses to state their opinion as well.

If You think that the buyer is right, support him!

If you think the seller is a chit, flame him!

If you think that I am an azz, and my opinion sucks, flame me! I am a big boy, and can handle it. However, I prefer to choose my hills to die on, and certainly this is not the one.

    Bulldog,

You and everyone else are antitled to their opinions. No one disputes this.

Considering the circumstances, I think your request was totally justified, and asking never hurts. I would think nine out of ten sellers would gladly grant your request. I know I would. As for asking before the auction ended, how could you know you were going to get the coin for $102.50? Communication makes the world go aroundimage

Because of the US Post Office insurance fees and their increase since last summer, I'm not sure that is unreasonable.
