I think it could go 64 because the ding is not in a prime focal area, but a secondary one. Depends on how bright the contrast is of the exposed metal to the surface. Looks like the lighting in the shot accentuated it quite a bit.
Hi Ogden, a nice looking coin but it's to hard to tell from the pictures if there is a slight rub. If no light rub ms63 with a rub AU. The obverse on these coins usually have weak hair detail on the lower curls and yours seems to be better in this area than most. mike
When I bought this coin I thought it was 64 or maybe 65. The field is almost flawless. I did not see a mark anywhere on the reverse and the strike appeared great. When I got the slabbed coin back I was so surprised that it was graded AU-58. I still don't get it. I know that there is a slight pit in the hair, but that's about it. The only thing I can do it resubmit it, but I hardly think it could go from 58 to MS-63+. For the most part most of you thought as I did. The coin is more beautiful in person. I know that there are betters Columbian's out there, but I've never seen a nicer one.
I'd say MS-63. Joe Edited to say: Ogden, I was comparing yours to one I have in a PCGS 63 holder, yours seems to have more detail than mine so I figured 64 without the ding, net 63. I am quite surprised!
Joe, thanks! The pictures I posted were under magnification and the ding is really hard to see with the naked eye. I guess it's just another grading lesson. Costly, but what isn't.

Otherwise it looks very nicely struck but because of the ding I wouldn't want to go higher than 63.
Joe.
