This is cool. For those who are Star Trek fans. The show Enterprise in particular.
Connor Trinneer, who plays the first officer (Commander Tripp), lists coin collecting as his hobby in
his bio on the Star Trek site. I have sent an email to invite him to this forum. Who watches the show?
and is this cool or what? I wonder what he collects? I guess he can afford ANACONDA's coins for sure.

I've seen Richard Moll (Bull on Night Court) at shows several times.

I saw one guy (the nerd from the TV show Riptide) in a shop once. He was a major loud mouthed ass when I used to see them filming the show, yet a few years after it went off he was quiet as a mouse.

Yes, its Connor Trinneer, commander Tucker of the Enterprise.

Good guess Placid, I wonder if Paramount will forward my email to him, inviting him to the forum.
    What do you guys think?

Is that why Penny Marshal was in the photo with the Governor of CA and director Fore for the
CA statehood quarter meeting. I think she was standing next to Greg Manning of Teletrade?
    right?

  • That is nifty that you all came up with these names and I had no
idea about several of the celebs but then the next question?
What do they collect? Aren't you curious what series turns
them on? If you find out, please post. Maybe one of them is a
standing liberty quarter nut like me.

A big guy like James Earl Jones, can't believe he collects 3 cent
pieces, he's got to specialize in a gold series.

  • There are MANY celebs who collect coins. For the most part, they are very private. The bigger ones tend to buy through intermediaries (biz agents).

Penny Marshall is a close personal friend of Dwight Manley (founder of Spectrum and now a major sports agent). I do not think she is an avid collector like most people on this board. While she may buy a coin or two, she apprently goes to shows accompanying Dwight and thinks shows are neat. Way to go Laverne!

That's pretty cool. Hope he joins us, though I bet he'd come in with a moniker and not his real name. Now if we can get the people from Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda to show up... Especially Laura Bertram... imageimageimage

How ironic that Darth Vader himself collects coins. We've used him for a Darkside recruitment pic for a while... image

I posted earlier in this thread that I have a family member that might work with Connor Trinneer on the set of Star Trek. I followed through and asked said family member and indeed my assumption was correct. Although my family member said he doesn't know him very well, he said he will bring up coin collecting and ask him what he collects per my request. It doesn't excite me but thought I would follow through anyway.

I have read that Dennis Rodman has an Extremely High Relief Proof Saint Gaudens. And he could afford it! I don't know if he actively collects or if this was an investment diversification strategy.

Hey nwcs - Thanks for sharing your secret. Love the show and I taped the first 5 seasons. You would be hilarious at parties.

Thanks alot for responding and following up and thanks to all. I hope Connor joins the forum.
I also heard that Rodman does collect and so does Andre Dawson and Wayne Gretsky.

    Brian.
  • I can clarify two things, Dennis Rodman HAD an Ultra High Relief only because Dwight Manley was his manager (and I'm not so sure the coin wasn't owned by Dwight). Dwight is also Penny Marshalls friend (see my prior thread). He is the founder of Spectrum Numismatics. Now he is a full time sports agent. And no Karl Malone (his big client) does NOT own any coins nor does he want to (I met him at the Salt Lake City ANA).

Also, I personally met Wayne Gretskys business manager. Wayne is NOT a coin collector. I went to Waynes office to try and buy the Hamilton Fish Pattern Trade Dollar pattern set two years ago. He showed me ALL his coins, out side of a rare Candian piece, I was told he had little interest in coins. He got into it because of his former friend/biz partner Bruce Mc Nall who owned the Kings and Numismatic Fine arts.

"Matlock" used to be a coin collector. I assume that Andy Griffith is one in real life.

Buddy Ebsen had a major collection. I just flipped thru this catalog a few days ago.

How about our very own MoneyLA (Alan Mendelson) who is a local celebrity in So. Cal. Maybe he is known outside LA? I'm sure he will let us know. BTW, met him at a shop about a year ago. Very nice guy.

It would seem that for alot of them, its only an expensive trinket to show off. How many actually
    have a genuine interest?

Bert, the Baliff on "Judge Judy" is an avid collector. He was at the Long Beach show last time around.

He looks bigger (and meaner) in person.
