My 68 set hits 100%

Well it is official now, my 68 topps set just hit 100% with a 8.37 gpa. I will still upgrade as I have more cards in route. I am trying to get to 8.75 or better. My set has 25 10's 238 9's the rest 8's with the exception of 4 cards. I would like to thank all that have helped me,
Dhcards. Dan Markel, Bob Cacamese, Ron Rittlinger, Quality Cards(Jay) And Steve at BBCExchange, and anyone else that I forgot. Thanks to all and may you all have Happy Holidays!image

  • Dave,

Congratulations! You should get some kind of award for completing a 600 card set the quickest. Great GPA also! Nice job.

congrats, man! i don't know how you '60s and '70s baseball guys do it. i was pretty thrilled to reach 75 percent on a 100-card set hockey today. i can't imagine needing another 374 cards to reach that plateau.

  • Wayne - Thanks I forgot to mention you when you helped me with the nines you sold me and also at the National steering me towards the tables that could help. Thank you so much for the kind words and the help. Guys like you on this forum are what is priceless.

Bernie- I am going to do the 69 set. I have piddled with it while I was building the 68 set and now have a little over 62% done. I just got a Rose in 8 but need the big three(Mantle, Jackson, Ryan). I have it on good authority the one of the three is under my tree. I also am messing with the 75 Regs I won the 150 card lot in the superior auction I felt that was a great deal.

    Yawnie99- Thanks for nice words.

I hope you don't need any that I do. I've gone up against you in auctions and came away battered and bruised! image Seriously, congrats on the '68 set and good luck with the '69s, especially the ultra tough low pop commons. I'm going in the opposite direction and will get to serious work on upgrading my '68 set once the '69 is all 8s or better.

  • Great job Dave! Very impressive image
  • Very nice job on a massive set! Congrats!
  • Scott- Thanks for the post and I was a little crazy the last few weeks. When you get that close to the end you get a little blood thirsty. I am glad it over as far as the needed cards to finish the set. I will still upgrade.

Gemint- Thanks for your help on the set of 69's. I have purchased a few cards from you. I will be a little more quiet on the 69's but will be aggressive on cards that have gone by me a few times.(Shannon)

Larry-Thank you for the help with my Kellogg's adventures. I still need 6 more for my 70 set and am messing with the 73,74,76 but doing it slowly. I have about 200 misc Kellogg's gojng into psa before the deadline. I will try to be nice on the sets.

Gemmintman- Without your help on the 70 set I would be not even close. I just got my submission results on the 92-1970 cards and got nines and eights. No tens. I got 48 nines and 44 eights. Still having trouble grading them cards as they are different than a reg card.

    Thanks to you all Dave

Congrats DAVE!! It's been tough to follow your rise these past 2 years. Glad you've moved over onto the 69's to keep those guys company. Keep me informed on what you need. I have to agree BBC is happy for your/our support!

    Dave,

Congratulations! It was a pleasure helping your build that classic set. I don't recall seeing anyone knock it out as fast as you did. That's quite impressive. One of these days I'll get around to entering mine and completing it. I'm about 38 cards short of completing it in 8 or better.

Good luck on the '69 set. It's a bit tougher than the '68.

Outstanding work Dave! If you'd like some help with the 75s, just let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Yawie> "i don't know how you '60s and '70s baseball guys do it."
My most recent additions to my 75 set put me to 93.48%. . .that's 43 cards short. . .so what do I see on eBay tonite? Two cards I need with Buy-It-Now options. And while I'm now 41 cards short of my 75 set, I have 470 cards to go on my 78 set image
As for how we do it. . .one card at a time. . .you'll drive yourself nuts any other way.

    Stump:

Congratulations -- an amazing set, quickly built, and with a high GPA! What are your plans now? Keep and upgrade? Keep and set aside? Or sell? At any rate -- a very fun set, in amazing fresh condition -- I am sure it is a beauty to behold!

    Marc
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

  • Just so everyone knows, I have no intention of selling. I built this set to keep as 68 and 69 were the two I remember the most when I was a kid. I was 9 when the 68 came out( there I aged myself) and can remember opening packs and yes the dreaded bike noise soon followed. My income is fine so I dont need the money as of right now. The only way I would sell is if I got in a financial crisis.

    Larry-I will email you soon.

Dude- I know the 69's are tougher and I will have to be more patient. I do have a couple of raw sources that I will tap soon.

Mike- Thank you I will keep this in mind as I move forward. I have two sets to go through first . I also have 125 raw ready for submission that I took out of a vending box.

Marc- definitely upgrade on the 68's. I will continue to do this. I have my eye on the 10's on ebay now. I think me and Ron have drawn the lines. Bighurt still is a force when he chooses to be which is scary. He has beat me a few times in the past months on tens. I still have cards in route that will take me over 8.4 but after the first of the year I will concentrate on the 69's.

Thanks again to all that helped I am truely thanksful Dave
