Why isn't Barney's "Monster" Morgan getting much attention?

Is it the money, or waiting for the end?Text

Maybe because it dosen't even show up if you search in morgans for pcgs or ngc.
There are so many morgans on eBay that I would never have seen it without the links on this forum.
It dosen't even show up using the search term monster.

    A few guesses:

It personally doesn't look like a monster coin to me. It looks very nice and a mark free coin, but not a monster to me based on the photo. I haven't seen it in person, so it very well might be 100X better than the photo. eBay bidders have to go by the photo.

Also, reserve auctions don't do well.

This is also a horrible time to sell. Buying coins is frequently the last thing on peoples minds this time of the year.

I agree with most that has been said. I also feel if he would have taken more time putting it up he would do better. Like he says paypal as last resort, but doesn't say what kind CC etc.

Not knocking you Barney I love the coin.

  • Hi guys.

Thanks for the feedback. I admit that I did not do a very good job with selling the coin-my first try. I could use some pointers here and will
attempt to sell the coin again in the spring. It is up to $1800, though. I don't like reserve auctions either but was afraid to lose money
    on this item.

I forgot to add PCGS 64 in the title and cannot do so now because of the bids. Maybe I should enter a high opening bid with no reserve.

I also revealed the MONSTER reserve! Now the truth is out.

    Thanks again,
    Barney

One suggestion, if you are hoping for frantic bidding as the auction closes, would be an end time that is not the middle of the night for everyplace in the continental United States. Some of us obviously stay up all hours, many people don't.

  • Truely a beautiful coin. Perhaps Ebay isn't the best forum for this coin? The holiday timing is hurting as well. For this kind of money you're missing out on all the credit card bidders, and that's hurting as well.

A better searchable title and more payment options and you'll see some money. image

    Got Morgan?
  • Well, kids, I received a pleasant surprise this morning. Now, not on the Morgan (I REALLY didn't want to sell it now anyway) but on my
VAN! Someone has offered to buy it and if all goes well, I will have $3000 extra at the end of January. We'll see how it goes.

Thanks for the cool advice. It was worth the learning experience. Bidding is closed for now-see you in the spring!

    Best regards and happy holidays,
    Barney

I'm not really sure why that piece got so much attention in the first place.

If someone offered to pay me $1800.00 for that piece, I'd take it in a second and run fast. Even in this very strong market for nicely toned coins, that's a $600.00-$900.00 coin on a GOOD day IMO, and a far cry from the "Mother of Monsters".

  • One time I fouled up big time on a high dollar auction, and I canceled the auction, first contacting all the bidders, explained my error, and immediately relisted the item, correctly, and re contacted all the bidders with a link to the new auction. I got nearly twice as much on the second auction. It was worth it, and no one bad feedbacked me for it.

I've sold most of my Ebay offerings "after the fact" as Barney apparantly has, and find it to be more a classified add than an actual selling venue for more expensive coins. It's part of the game and well played by many buyers -- they get a better price knowing the seller avoids the substantial Ebay commision and relisting fees. It doesn't help your feedback, and can be risky on the buyer's end, but I'd love to know what % of listings end this way to the benefit of both parties.
