You never know what the hunt may bring your way

Last August on the weekend of the National I was able to spend Friday at the show. My son had been finishing his intern work at a hospital in Minnesota and a party was planned for him the next day. I hated the fact that I was only able to spend one day at the big show but he had finally earned that degree and nothing was going to keep me away from that special time. While the ladies were preparing for the event he and I went into a little tourist town close to where he lived. There were several antique shops so I thought I would see if there may be an over looked treasure to be found. I came upon a showcase with several Beatles cards from 1964 displayed. I asked to see the cards and it wasn't long before I had a eye out on the centering and corners of the fab four cardboard. Most of the cards were fairly nice but had the typical corner damage from years of being moved from here to there. I did find a handful that I thought were worthy of a PSA case so I purchased them for about $1.50 each. I got them home and looked at them under magnification and guessed mostly seven's and eight's. There was one that I thought was really nice and had a shot at coming back my way as a nine. Yesterday the grades were posted and this card had been given a grade of TEN. I was really surprised to say the least. It is the only piece from any of the five Beatles issues from 1964 that has been given a grade of ten. I was totally happy with my submission. I had nine 1959 Stooges cards that all came back eight's with one nine. Now I'm thankful that I had to leave Chicago because I don't think that I could have found anything in the room in raw form from the 60'S that would have yielded me a ten. Here's the submission number for anyone who would care to check it out. 460319
I collect the 1960 and 1961 Nu Card issues. I also enjoy the 1959 Fleer Three Stooges.

Great find! Gives us all hope that there are still treasures hiding out there.

Always looking for 1957 Topps BB in PSA 9!

  • Being a big Beatles fan I am envious. I have a complete set of 1964 Beatles cards and not one is worth submitting for grading. But I like them anyway. Brings me back to when I was a 20 year old.image

  • Philabuster- Great job on a nearly 40 year old card.

I have complete raw sets of the Beatles 1964 color and diary sets and sent a handful or so of the better ones in. I got a few 8's and the rest 7's.

A 10!!!! That is just great as, relatively speaking, there aren't a lot of high grade Beatles cards out there.

    Congrats.

(Note that I conquered the urge to weave Beatles lyrics into the above text. image )
