Late die state?

Does anyone know how to spot a late die state? Is it generally undesirable?

    That answer depends on whether you are a variety collector. LDS is by definition late in the life of the die, but many varieties exist only from worn dies.image
    Developing theory is what we are meant to do as academic researchers
