More Depressing Submission Results

The commems were the "money makers" and this is second submission were they intentionally graded those lower than the other coins from SAME set. So it's another looser submission and a complete waste of my money.

1 60065590 Congress S$1 1989-S PR68DC
2 60065591 Congress 50C 1989-S PR67DC
3 60065592 1989-S 50C PR69DC
4 60065593 1989-S 25C PR69DC
5 60065594 1976-S S$1 Silver PR66DC
6 60065595 2002-P SAC $1 MS67

Date Received: 11/26/2002

Probably last batch of moderns I'll be sending PCGS. Since they're giving out 70's again (and I'll never make one), the 69's are no longer worth submitting.

The Sacagawea came back a grade higher than expected, though. I had it pegged at 66, which sells for about $6. As a 67 it'll fetch a whopping $8.50 on eBay image The PR69 kennedy and quarter (both dipped, I'm not sending any more original 70's in to be undergraded) will fetch $15-$20 each. Commems $20 each if I'm really lucky. The Ike is a bust, maybe $10... or adding it together, around $100 total. Grading/shipping cost $70, coins cost $35+, dip/flips another $10. LOSER, LOSER, LOSER, LOSER (I feel better now.. until the IRS sends me a 15% SS bill anyways, just to add insult to injury.)

well gee, thanks for all the sympathy (acutally, did recieve a PMs to console me). After a few submissions however, there's no doubt in my mind that the grades I receive are directly related to the value of the coins I submit. Or, in other words, I'll never get a "big money" coin regardless of the quality of the material I submit to PCGS. So, I'm opting to save some money instead and send my moderns to ANACS @ $7 a slab (30% discount to PCGS modern rate).

I wish you better luck with ANACS than I had! Every modern I sent in came back either MS66 or PR66. It must have been a 66 day when they graded my coins.

So that's what they call it! They must have 66s day at PCGS also.
  • No more PCGS grading for me. Ill buy only PCGS graded coins but I will never send them to PCGS for grading.

  • Maybe you don't get sympathy because you don't need it. You play the game, sometimes you lose. You are happy as a lark when you turn a $50 coin into a $100 coin, so don't get mad when they turn a $50 dog into a $10 dog.

    Why did you even bother?

  • I dont see anything wrong! I sure hope you didnt submit with the intention of recieving 70s, unless you meant to send to ICG!

the Sac was the "freebie of the quarter" dealio... it's also the only coin in the batch I didn't "work" on image The Ike was a stuborn mule, had big nasty milk spots all over it, which finally did come off. Unfortunately, looks like I rushed my "rinse" (I actually dunk them in an acetone bath, and EZest has water in it BTW). Now I have to decide if I should crack it out and "fix" it again. Might just let sit for a few months to see if it changes any more, looks like staining anyways (guess that's why PCGS didn't bag it). My mistake on that one. The Congress silver dollar came out great, shoulda gone 69 image the clads I just got lucky, I hate dipping anything with that much copper in it, 50% of the time comes out like cr@p. So, provided they didn't charge my card for the Sac, I guess it wasn't that bad. Still can't make any money off this submission, but I'll probably play PCGS lotto again image

  • The 89 s $1 Congress looks nice. What did the flip side look like? It sure looks as good as the JFK. I have a 58 brilliant proof Frankie. I swear it is a 68. But I am afraid to send it in with most of the results that have been posted lately.

there's just the faintest trace of haze in fields on the reverse (sorry no scan yet). I got back two Olympic silver dollars earlier that had more haze and went 69 (no spots on any of these tho). I've also gotten some 69's back that were haze free with watery fields (never dipped and submitted in original packaging too) that I thought were no-brainer 70's. So I'm not too sure what to expect lately.
