question, how much do you think a cameo proof sl 25c should sell above a non cameo proof....

i have been looking at a few type proof coins lately, some are super nice cameo proofs. the price diff is 25 to 50 percent higher for a real nice cameo proof. i was wondering if that is the norm...

  • ya pay for what ya get. You want a STELLAR cameo, ya might pay a lil more premi. You want a just made it cameo, might not even pay a premi at all. Depends on date also, later dates are easy to find in cameo, moreso than their early date counterparts.

    2sharpeis,

Many coins of that type are fairly easy to locate with cameo contrast and can be purchased at a very small premium (10%, for example) over a non-cameo.
  • thanks guys, i didnt know that most later date type coins in proof have some cameo contrast. i guess if its a super nice coin and i really want it ,20 % above would be ok ...

If the coin is post-1980 (thereabouts) there's no reason to pay a premium for cameo. They're really common in all modern dates. The ones that deserve the real premiums are the ones in the 50s and 60s. In some of the denominations of some years, expect to pay a hamdsome ransome for a nice cameo coin.
