Is this a Mint Made product? If so, I missed it. If not then... ?

First I've seen it, but it certainly wasn't issued by the mint.
    Tempus fugit.
  • Eeeww... and what's the Ike/weightlifting connection?
  • Better yet look at the asking price. I suppose that the seller has all the rest of the limited edition!
Collector of all proofs 1950 and up plus mint and proof Ikes.
  • I've never heard of them before. I am certain that the counterstamp was neither prepared by nor struck at the mint. The counterstamp was not sanctioned by the Olympic committee (no logo). I am curious how they managed to do the counterstamp without doing much more damage to te obverse than they did. Possibly a soft brass or aluminim plate on the obverse side hat would conform to the obverse and support it.

I doubt if they would make 1000 of them for the weightlifting team since there probably aren't more than a dozen members on the team. More likely a few dozen were made up by a fan of the team or someone who had a connection to one of the team members. To me it's a five to ten dollar item.

Yet PCI slabs these things with their "problem free" gold bordered label.
