Coin Album Question

New to collecting and have purchased a Dansco Deluxe Album for 1909 - Date Lincoln Cents. Its nice but is there nicer?

I have checked out the Littleton COin Deluxe Album for the 50 State Quarters and I liek the binder look.

WHat do you all suggest?

  • I primarily collect in albums and have struggled on this one for the stupidest reasons.

The Dansco albums probably hold the coins the best, although the die cuts appear to be shallow and you have to be very careful regarding slide marks. As for stupid reasons, I really can't stand that horrible gold brush script type they use on the spines. Looks cheezy.

I used the blue Whitman albums (as opposed to folders) as a kid and still use many of these. As the collections near completion in high grade, I have been moving these to Intercept Shield albums. I like the technology and the hard outer casing in which the albums are contained. I think they could be made a little better when it comes to the pages, however, the package and the storage capability is the best. I bought a set of IS albums for my Morgan collection and returned them because the collection didn't really "sit" well in the IS albums.

I personaly prefer the Danscos myself. Make sure when you insert the coins you leave the back sleeve in and insert the coin to it so when you slide in the top sleeve it doesn't scrape the high spots on the coinsimageimage May even be better to put them in from the back of the page, leaving the sleeve that will be over the obverse in and putting them in backwards. That way, in case you have some slide marks, they're on the reverseimage Hopefully. I really don't have any experience with Whitmans, other than the cheapo flip open ones. They're fine for common circulated stuff. Good luck witht hem. I've had a nearly all BU set of Morgans in them for about 7 years now and haven't had any problems or complaints.

Dansco Deluxe Albums are the top of the line albums. the littleton looks very cool with binder. its best looking one I've seen, but it seem kind of pricey for just state quarters the harris is much cheaper (3.00) and a fairly nice looking album. harris holds all 50 states P and D just like the littleton. the blue Whitman albums look bland to me I don't like them any more.

I hate it when you see my post before I can edit the spelling.

Always looking for nice type coins

  • My wife likes the Littleton binders better than Dansco because they look nicer. That's all it takes to make a decision around here.image
  • Yeah the gold on the Dansco looks to 70ish for me. I think I will order the Littleton Binder today for my SAE collection.

the older whitman albums lay flat, which is nice when you're playing around with them because they won't slide off your desk. the mid-70's whitman albums I have (look just like today's) produce unusual pastel colors, and they stink of some chemical to this very day (you should see the colors on my Mercury dimes image). I've been buying mostly intercept albums myself lately, tho.
