Is the 1999-S jersey quarter from a proof set?

Friend of mine asked me if I knew where a 1999-S jersey quarter was from. I said
San Francisco mint. They said they have a quarter book but there's no hole for
the "S" only the "P" and "D" mint. So I said I'd check with the experts. The quarter
looks its been circulating and I have never seen the "S" mint for these.

Thanks for the help

    Yep, if it is a circulating S mint coin from the last 28 years or so it's a circulated proof coin. Sounds like a kid spent the parent's collection.
  • pulthis...your friend has a book for business strikes only...S mint coins are proofs...your frinds book is for circulateing quaters (p-d)..some books will also include the proofs...or be only for proofs..2 versions of S mint proofs...silver and clad..

    Pullthischange;

    You have been blessed to receive a proof quarter. If it has the typical copper sandwich look on the edge...Its a clad proof. If there is no copper in the sandwich its a coin silver proof. These are 90% silver and ten percent copper. Congrats!
