I don't see what the problem is with the mint selling 2002 halves. It make it very convienient to get the coins. Much better than having to wait until the coins get worked through the Fed Reserve to get to your bank or wait until your dealer gets them and charges you the same thing the mint charges. I'm glad they are selling them.
  • The mint has been selling coins since mandated by the U.S. Constitution. Business strikes are sold for face value daily through the Federal Reserve banks and that is the way it should be with the Kennedy halves, that's all. If collectors are so happy to buy a common 50 cent piece for $.89, then why not tax them or just sell them for $1.00 each? image

  • Would stopping production make you feel better? They can make and sell whatever they want! The part that I think should be outlawed is selling Bullion Coins to only certain dealers, thats discrimination!

Why doesn't the Mint intentionally produce mules and other "rare" errors and charge thousands for them? Maybe they can abrasively clean all circulation coins that sell to the Federal Reserve branches at face and only sell problem-free coins through their website to collectors.

Heaven knows they don't make enough money on seignorage now.

  • Who says they dont? I would bet $ errors are made intentionally all the time!
