What's the seller's market like this close to Xmas

A question to all the people who sell on eBay throughout the year... how are your prices looking with it being pretty close to Christmas? Taking into consideration the economy and that its not baseball season, would you say sale prices are higher than average for the Christmas rush, or lower because people are waiting for the money Christmas present?
Currently collecting the Nolan Ryan Basic and Topps Player sets.

  • I have no idea, but I'll tell you one thing -- it is a giant pain to have auctions ending close to X-Mas. You end up going to the post office and standing in line forever.

I have some up now, but that's because I need the money now. If I didn't, I wouldn't list anything until January.

  • I think the market is strong. Seems to be here in Michigan anyway. I live in a small town and the local mall has alot of traffic. More than last year anyway.

Brucemo my heart goes out to you on the post office. I used to live in Detroit and it was aweful. The town I live in now is awesome. Hardly no lines at all.

  • I've found it to be slower than normal, even in graded material. I don't know if it is the economy, people buying Christmas gifts and not cards, one of those sporadic and unpredictible e-bay lulls or just the stuff I've got up but the last week to 10 days have been much slower than normal.

  • I typically pick up great bargains at the week or two before Christmas because most collector's are spending their money on their families. Ebay selling dies down and I get in with what are really good bargains the last two years. As a seller I would say that is a negative. Not too many people log on to buy cards for gifts. It's usually collector's.

This year in particular wasn't strong to begin with.

I took a beating the last two years selling on Ebay around this time. So, this year, I've decided that I'll buy instead.

I generally avoid December AND January. People spend a ton of money in December on family holiday presents and go into shock in January when they realize that they are deep in debt.
  • I think generally, people aren't in front of their computers within the next couple weeks, at least the casual buyer. Us die hards are on every night. Plus, if it's a hot item, it will always do good.
I would definately avoid having your auction end (sports items) during important bowl games, and New Years eve and day. Conversely, That's when all the "bargain hunters" are trying to sneak out with something cheap, so who knows? I mistakingly had an auction end on Thanksgiving night, and it ended strong. So who's to say????
