1969 Shannon PSA 8 WOW

Got beat again on this card. It went for 222.00 tonight on ebay. Bob C. won another. He nabbed a SGC 96 last week that looked awesome. Well I guess I will wait for the next one.image

  • Daniel has the SGC 96's vending twin up right now. This one is for the PSA collectors. A little of something for everyone...enjoy!

  • Hmmm a PSA 9 that should get interesting next week. I see Bob has got it marked.

Should be interesting. I'm shocked the Dave Duncan PSA 9 didn't go for more. That's as tough a card as the Shannon and it sold for less that $100. If I hadn't just purchased an SGC 92 to cross over, I would have bid over $100 for it.

Shannon in PSA 9 at $300 and climbing. Gotta love duking it out with 5 days remaining! Gooooooooooooooooo Shannon!

The irony of the Shannon PSA 9 is that now you can not say that it's even in the top 50 of the toughest cards in the set. There are still at least 70 other cards that have yet to graded 9. For years, I've felt that there were others that were actually tougher like the Santiago, Ferraro, Brock and, Roy White, and NL ERA Leaders plus a bunch of others.

I'm not trying to be critical of the soon to be winner. In my opinion the price is already too high. My experience has been that when someone buys the first 1 of 1 PSA 9 common, the vast majority of the time it's value can only go down. If I knew for certain that there will never be another 9, then a $300 bid may be warranted (but I'm not sure I'd still pay that much for a common).

Dude, you're right. Nice Shannons have been coming out of the woodwork lately. It appears many came from this seller (including the one I bought). Now some of the toughest cards are the Ferraro, McDaniel and Andrews which previously weren't talked about much. And yes, the Brock is still one of the toughest even though there are twenty 8s. Being an SMR listed HOF card, it is more likely to be submitted than commons, thus the higher population. My guess is there are a good 20 PSA 8 or better quality raw Shannons out there waiting to be graded.
  • Well you guys are starting to make me second guess my bid. I am currently the high bidder. I am seventh on the registry with no intentions of letting up till I am 100 percent. I need one card for my 68 and it is on the way in nine I hope to register it by the end of the week. That frees me up to concentrate on the 69's. Oh well I will still be happy with a one of one for the time being. image

    Stump,

Don't worry about your bid on the Shannon (you can still retract the bid). It's a moot point anyway, we all know that Gaspipe26 will buy it for his 3rd or 4th attempt at this set and then 2 months from now it will be in the next Superior Auction. image

Lets see, gemint are you the one I sold the Andrews to in 9? I have the SGC Ferraro in 96, you all know that is getting cracked out, so is the Shannon 96. As for the set, will I rebuild it? Dont think so. I'm up to 7 horses now and doing pretty good. Had another winner at Dover tonight, and a 2nd at the Meadowlands last Friday night. Its really getting fun.
  • And to think less than six months ago in this thread I was chastised for offering to short the Shannon @ $250 in three years. Anyone want to take me up on that now (in PSA 8 no less)?
Why do I get the feeling, that some cards are worth money, while others are not?

Yes, that one and the Tresh 8. Sometimes I win and sometimes I lose. Those two were good purchases. I've been burned on some others I've won on eBay or bought outright (would have been better off waiting for the populations to increase before purchasing). I made a run on that Ferraro but you got me on it. Maybe I'll try to win it if/when you relist it as a PSA 8 or 9. Do you think it is centered well enough to get a 9? If I recall, top to bottom measured about 35-65 from the scan. Good luck with it.
  • Dude you were right I had a high bid of 350.00 on the Shannon and guess who is now the high bidder. (Bob)If he wins this it will be the third in three weeks. The first two were a SGC-96 and a high grade PSA 8. I think he is trying to corber the market on the Shannon. Thats ok I can be patient. I have yet to see a real low pop continue to go up. The price will soon drop.

    gemint,
Got the Shannon in 96 and the Ferraro yesterday. The Ferraro is 38-62 T to B. The 4 corners have not a fuzz on them. Its going to be a close call on a PSA 9. The Shannon is 50-50 3 of the 4 corners are razors, 1 has a rough cut on it. It too will be a close call for a 9, but a definate 8.

If I'm fortunate enough to win the 9, I'm going to put all 3 in a frame and hang them on the wall with the Gibson in 9. I had to put my bids in now because I'll be at The Meadowlands tonight. Hopefully "Something onda arm" will storm home and pay for some of these ridiculous bids his owner makes.
  • Bob no worry from this end I am done on the Shannon. I try to stick with my high bid from the beginning. I will wait for the next 8 or 9. By the way thanks for all the cards so far in the 69's you have really helped me with my set. I won the rookie lot this year from the folks in Tampa. I believe this was part of your fisrt set. The cards I get from you are always high quality and I thank you for that.
