Speaking of Heritage.....

I recently bought two coins from the Heritage Santa Clara Signature sale, and their Santa Clara Bullet sale. They were two Proof Indian Cents, and the scans looked nice. They were bought sight-unseen, with no return privileges.
One of the coins (from the Signature sale) was flat out ugly with a fingerprint on the right obverse behind the headress, something that was not noted in the coin's description. The other was "fair", although certainly not a coin I would have bought had I seen it at a coin show.
The point is, you just can't rely on the scan, unless you have a return privilege. I would have thought I would know better by now.

What was the coin with the fingerprint?
  • I thought you can return with a 5 or 15% restocking fee if you buy sight unseen?

And yes there scans suck big time. I stopped buying from them unless i see the coin. If they read this maybe they will seek out Anaconda for his photo taking skills? Maybe then i will more readily bid sight unseen.
  • The coin was a 1900 Proof RB in a PCGS64 holder. My understanding is you can return coins from the Heritage internet auctions, but not from a Signature or Bullet sale. When I got the coin I looked at the scan (enlarged) carefully, and saw a little brownish spot where the print was, but nothing which would lead me to conclude that there was a print there.
