Kellog

Hi board. Maybe you can help. I found an old money clip with an 1854 Kellog but has a blank reverse. I want to find out more about it and if it's real.
Any suggestion? thanks for the replies, Joe

i think it is a replica of the kellogg and comapny twenty dollar gold piece if you have a red book you can find something aboujt this coin and a photo of the coin look up kellogg in the index in the back of the redbook you can geyt a redbook at the public library

  • Thanks mike, I did look it up. It does seem like a replica. I,m wondering what it's worth. Joe image
  • Is it a uni-face restrike? a one-sided coin made from original die.

Is it made from gold? gold has been trending upwards near $335/oz

Does it look nice? would someone with lots of money want to spend lots of money for it?

These things would help determine value (as well as finding 2 people wanting it in an auction - or one
person wanting to spend as much as you ask) !!

for me i would need to see it to tell you the value but a guessitmate would be

if it is real gold then it is worth to me melt value plus 10%

if it is a cast replica depending on what it looks like
if it is a custom job or one of many and really ugly it has a nominal value 5 to 35 dollars

but as per the above i need to see it in person to judge a value and even then beauty/value is in the eye of the beholder
