The answer to that is more or less a coin to coin thing. No blanket answer will treat all symptoms. It depends on what the corrosion is, and how bad it is. I can't give a straight answer to your question anyway, I'm not sure what to do with them, but I am sure it can't be properly answered by anyone without at least a good image.

  • Stop the corrosion source (possibly due to some contaminant that continues to attack the metal) with washing/dilution or deactivation.
Troublesome since both acids and alkali conditions, as well as contact with other oxide-forming chemicals accelerate the natural process.

A soaking in distilled water, changed completely several times at least daily over several days will help if this is the source of the problem, for water-soluble carriers.

The other organic sources can be reduced through acetone soaks (much more briefly, very reactive).

Moisture is the accelerant for most oxidation processes. Must be removed and a barrier will slow it down. Oils will coat the metal and prevent the access to the surface.

Old-timers' remedies included bee's-wax or shellac.

Try this for better understanding of the processes. site
