1970 kellogg's #71 bob gibson variation only 5 psa 9

i received my submission on 1970 kellogg's. i ended up with 4 psa 9's of #71 bob gibson with the variation. i was looking at the pop report and i have 4 of the 5 that are 9's. i talked to a couple of kellogg collectors and ended up with different opinions. one told me it was the same as the card with 221 that are 9's and another gentleman told me it was to be considered as a low pop card. both offered to buy it from me at different prices. my question is will you have to have all the variations to have a master set or is it just another card. after talking with psa about it and looking at the pop report you don't see a lot of them being graded. any views or opinions are welcome.

    Fab4,

I don't collect the Kellogg's cards, so for general information, could you tell me what the variations are? SMR says the variations are equally valued, but doesn't say what the variations are.

    Thanks
    Bernie Carlen

Currently collecting.....your guess is as good as mine.

    3 different gibson's.

    71 BOB GIBSON 1959 IP BLANK 0 0 0 0 0 0 2 0 0 0 0 2

    71 BOB GIBSON 1959 IP 76 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 5 0 0 6

    71 BOB GIBSON 0 0 3 9 7 0 60 1 221 0 0 301

that is what i found on the pop report.

  • Fab4, I'm fairly certain that the second row of information you presented is simply the same thing as the regular Gibson issue (third row) and should be added to that info. I've been meaning to mention this to Charlie.

The variation card ('59 IP blank) never really intrigued me, but congrats on obtaining it. BTW, you don't need it for the set completion.

  • Sorry, I misunderstood you. Nice job though! Now get a 10 next time, contact me image.
  • fab4, the Gibson in the third line is from submissions before PSA started labeling the variation on the holder. It was not until recently that psa started labeling this variation, so the numbers in the third line include both variations. BTW, I'm glad PSA started labeling this variation. I think all variations should be labeled and seperated out in the pop report.

    gmm.

what is your opinion on value. i have 2 people interested at different end of the money spectrum. don't know if i am going to keep or sell 1 or 2 or all 4. i pulled a psa 8 boyer on the 64 giants and i was going to keep it until i was made an offer i could not refuse. i have another submission of 100 of 70 kelloggs going in next week, may have a 10 or 2 in my (your) future.

  • Fab4, a regular Gibson PSA 9 should cost $15-20, sometimes a little more or less. I have no idea what a Gibson 9 variation would sell for but probably a strong price.

If you don't mind me asking how much did you get for the Boyer PSA 8? Just morbid curiosity image. Don't answer if you don't want to. Congrats on that too - it's the toughest card in the set in my opinion.

Good luck with the submission. Yes, please let me know.

it was a package deal. i include it with a causey, stuart, cisco, koufax, aparicio, radatz, brinkman, friend and a psa 9 frank howard from the 70 kellogg's. over all a good submission and good grades. the boyer even with a package deal is the going price on ebay, if you pm me i will give you the price.

    thanks......................fab4

  • Hey Fab4 just a little FYI I have three of the 76 IP Gibsons into PSA now and two more going. Now I am not saying they are going to be 9's but I beleive there are a few out there. I opened a pack last week and got a nice one. Good luck with them and great job on the boyer 8. Still looking to complete my set of 70 Kellogg's need May,Powell.Alou , Stargell,Clemente, and Cullen in 9 or better. Good luck with future submissions.

    stump,

i agree that more are out there, also i figure a few have been graded and not idenified as variations. good luck on the gibsons you submitted . as far as the boyer goes i guess i was lucky. the one that received a 7 looked better than the 8.

    thanks....................fab4.................

Still not sure if it was confirmed whether the 76 IP variation is the same as the others. I just got a 10 on the variation, so I am very curious as to the actual scarcity of the card.
