I need grading help. 1999 Silver American Eagle

What is this creamy white stuff on the coin, and how will it affect my grade?

Thanks,
John Dillie

I don't know what you've got going on there. It looks like a fairy spilled a Pepsi on it. How was it stored?

BTW - You're #1 SAC Set will probably become #2 - #4 soon. There are 3 new 2002-S PR70DCAMs SAC $1 which will most likely being showing up soon.

    Everybody slide over one space...

I hate it when you see my post before I can edit the spelling.

Always looking for nice type coins

    my local dealer
  • you could give it a quick dip in liquid silver cleaner and then rinse it in a lot of water real quick. Probably not worth all the effort. It will never go back to a high grade coin.
  • relayer-- I purchased 10 mint tubes from a dealer with a brick and mortar shop in Denver. I have been selling them on eBay. I went to my safe deposit box, grabbed this tube, and was suprised to find this stuff on every coin. The coin I show is the worst of the bunch.

MacCoin-- I didn't do anything to her. See answer above.

presleyh-- Dipping is something I have considered, but it seems the majority of people on this board think it's a bad idea, so I've never tried it.

I advertise my silver eagles as "should grade MS-67+". Most of the coins have been very nice coins with few bag marks and really should grade MS-67 to MS-68. I just don't want unhappy customers and was wondering if I should keep listing "these" coins as should make that grade? Is there a possibility the person that sold these to that dealer tried to do something with them, or is this common on these coins?

    Your help much appreciated.

I guess it depends how you feel about negative feedback.

If you have a silver coin that looks really bad, there is nothing wrong with trying a dip! make sure you rinse and dry it well so it doesn't spot.
