EAC collectors....

I think I have found a 1796 Draped Bust, S-100, with the die crack above TES OF, almost like the one in Sheldon"s Penny Whimsey as reverse RVD.
Sheldon says he has seen only one, which he found, and donated it to ANS museum.
This one is on its way to ANACS as I type, but can anyone give me an idea of rarity?
How many more have been found since 1958?

The new Breen book lists it at a low R5 which means 61-75 coins known.

    From Breen:

Type of 1797. Reverse L five berries left and five right. The outer berry is at the left stand of M

This is the only type of "1797" small fraction with a close curved date.

The outer berry is at the left stand of M

Die state III obverse buckling. Heavy reverse crack from the rim, through tops of TES OF, and to the rim. EXTREMELY RARE.

Because this may be a die state three, the R5 factor has increased substantialy I would say. Having something extremely rare out of a total known population of 75 coins would put this coin you have to a R7 I would suspect or 7 to 9 known.

Good find!! where did you get it?

  • The latest rarity that I have for the S 100 is R-6-. Any S100 is a great find. Can you post pics of the coin?
