You made me nervous with some of your posts. But just received an eBay purchase from him and shipping was prompt, packaging was good, and the coin was nicer than his eBay photo with bright rainbow toning obv and rev on an 1950 proof Washington. Overall, pleased as punch. cheers, alan mendelson

He purchased a coin from me.He also seemed interested in (2) others,so I sent them for his approval. He made an offer on the (2) and I refused and asked that he send them back.I'll let you know how it ends.

    << <i>Don,

How did this turn out??? >>

i tell you how it turned out. don sold me offline an ngc 1954 pr68cam that had been windexed and didnt turn while resting between recieving, grading, slabbing and finalizing. in other words, a total piece of doo some few mos later after it turned into a horror story, not really even worth using in an avg a-ok $100 1954 proof set as the cent filler. paid him $200 for it done deal. kept it,i'll deal with it,have no problems and don was just trying to get rid of a dog and find another coin for his registry. he bought it from heritage auction (imagine that!, an AUCTION) did he waste his time trying to impune heritage or just roll on,realizing the coin was a dud? he rolled on. him seeing th obvious, knowing the coin was misted with windex instead of the proper copper procedure of curation on proof lincs he ran it on ebay. i offered to buy it sight unseen. i rolled them dice son ! he also offered to send me a pcgs 1938 pr63rb and a pcgs 1950 pr64 linc for offer and did so. no cams,no probs, just set filler coins. i offered him full grey singles bid for the pair and he said he was in them too deep to let em go for that. ?? ok,whatever,i returned them,no hard feelings whatsoever. my expense. why didnt i raise holy hell about the obvious windexed 54 ngc 68cam,that even to a novice, much less one who is assembling a fine registry set would know this coin is a dog barking all night long, all day and growling in his sleep? BECAUSE I AM A RESPONSIBLE CAMEO DEALER AND TAKE MY HITS WITH MY LOSERS. quite unlike you james who wants to whine, make up crap, insinuate enhanced photos, etc, etc, etc which is all a whiney baby's bunch of CRAP!!!! you got a super pq cam+++++++++ type 1 pr66 just like i said it was. show it to rick, show it to val, show it to capper, finley, anyone you wish and they'll tell you the same thing. it's as close as you're going to get to dcam designation without gettin it and no it aint no $500 just made it and no it aint no $5000 dcam for you to crack and make $3600 on. i guess you would have sent me an extra $1500 for the ol atta-boy if so eh? shhhh!! you are the same irresponsible way you were since i've know you for 20 yrs or so. you whined, moaned groaned and came up with the bullcrappingest attempt you could muster to get me to take YOUR responsibility from an AUCTION purchase. i'll see you at the fun,we'll go see rick, see val and put an end to your whining once and for all. not that i need to but YOU need to hear it obviously. i dont. i know my business, they know theirs just like i do. i accept my responsibilties and my rolls of the dice. you are not there. NOT EVEN CLOSE. which is why you have not make it successful in the cameo business and i and the others have done quite well. this is ALL i'm saying about it,just this once as most have already concurred with us that you are a big boy now behave like one. your crap may work on here with those not in on the know. you already know it aint gone pass the giggle factor in the real cameo world with real cameo dealers. you have an aweful gutwrenching case of crackouter's remorse and now dont know what to to with a super pq cam+++++ on the edge of dcam type 1 is your problem. be responsible and just might would have started sending you wholesale lots you could do well with. too bad you had to pull a stunt cause now you got the punt,a 90 yarder at that !

    Mr. Funderburke,

Please point out where any of the following is attributable to me. I quote from your reply to this thread:

quite unlike you james who wants to whine, make up crap, insinuate enhanced photos, etc, etc, etc

The only exception is the photo insinuation. I still stand by this. I have not whined once, in fact I've said all along I screwed up buying this coin, and I intend to "TAKE MY HITS WITH MY LOSERS."

What others have stated can not and should not be attributable to me. If we go there, everyone looses.

    Jeff,

I'm just trying to get you to be upfront with your policies. You've never addressed that. Take Supercoins advice. List your return policy in your auction listings.

If you think it's me making stuff up, I refer you to some of your e-mails (which I have always kept private out of respect for e-mail, and will continue to do so) which have some blatantly false statements. Your list of cameo experts would be were I would look first. Glad to talk to Val, Capper, Rick or anyone else.

I've stated as you've stated, the coin is nice, but no where near as nice as you stated.

I wasn't trying to rip anyone off,if that is what you think.I believe I stated in the description that I attempted to cross over the NGC 1954 PR68 CAM to PCGS.They wouldn't cross it.When it was returned to me from PCGS,they made no mention of cleaning/windex.When I purchased the coin from a Heritage auction, there was also no mention of cleaning in their description.I don't know how long Heritage had it before I got it.I'm takeing your word that the coin was windexed, prior to being slabbed by NGC.Your purchase price was lower than I originally paid for the coin,by about $50.I also had the PCGS fees in it as well.I am putting together a high grade proof Registry Set,since it wouldn't cross at PR68,it didn't fit with the rest of my coins.I didn't just roll on as you indicated.I am sorry I didn't recognize the windexing.Maybe I should get out of coin collecting if I can't see something as blatant as what you describe.I have bought and sold many coins to members here, and on Ebay.Yours is the first time in all of these transactions that hasn't been satisfied.I'm just a blue collar worker who collects coins.I buy some and sell others to get $'s to buy other coins I need.In conclusion,if you fell it was a deliberate attempt to deceive you,I'll buy the coin back. You have indicated that NGC will buy it back "just to get it off the market",I didn't even know that was possible.Just goes to show how much I know.image This will be my last post to these boards.I replied to a post on the U.S. Coin Forum that a mans word is his bond.Mine means a lot to me.Regretfully signing off.

Pepperdoodles, I do not know you but I do know Don Merz. I have talked with him and went to coin shows with him and I do not believe I have ever heard a negative word from him. Now you, I have heard far to much about and from, and in too short a time. It is time for you to drag yourself off this website and crawl back in your hole. You stated in another thread that you would "bring bail money" when talking about another forum member, which you have a disagreement with. Let me tell you, PAL, if you talked about me like you have Merz, you would not need bail money...just bring your hospitalization card!!

I have known Don for well over a year now. If he had known the coin was "windexed", he would have told you long before pepperdoodles (snickerdoodles, poodledroppings, or whatever his name is) ever got his greedy little hands on it. Don is one of the few class acts on these boards. I'm right behind Goose3 and Bear's support in Don.

you take something out of context bunch of popoffs. i didnt think don knew and i do wholeheatedly feel don is one standup guy just wanting and deserving to have one fine set of lincolns. i INFORMED him of the coin's status, mainly so he's know what to look for on lincs for touble due to this problem. he didnt know, he said so. i believed him, still do. and i kept the coin anyway and have already called scott at ngc and told him it was coming back in our this weeks submissions for a buy it off the market buyback as soon as i got the invoice of what he paid,i paid and the avg market value of said coin, said grade. that deal is over like it should be. get the point sego?
    *
another out of context crap story is i informed james sego many years ago 10 or 12 or so ago at a peach state show as an informative tool of how the quick doctors do it where it last just long enough to get through the slab stage. i respect coins and their beauty and rarity. i would not ruin a coin with such stupid measures for now nor never. that's not how you do it. if you have haze on an early lincoln 36-70 proof (nothing works on the copper corroded spots) i have on any i have conserved using a rubber vise clamp type coin holder i place on a platform and run under scolding hot tap water for about 5 minutes each side, then rapidly douse and move around in distilled cold water then gently pat dry with a 100% fine cotton distilled water rinsed airdried bathcloth. shame on you james sego for trying to make it sound like you did. i respect coins and appreciate their beauty. hell,i'll even crack a perfectly fine silver proof coin out just take one microspeck off or an unrinsed finger rim egde dip residue dark area that another quick slabartist left on it just so i can get it right for the end owner. on the lincolns, that process takes the haze right off, leaves the coin mint natural, does not "alter the surface" and stays that way forever. in fact i have in my soon to be auctioned worlds finest cameo half through cents 50-70 raw mega set many 68 & 9 dcams even 50-55 earlies that are perfect, flawless 1st struck moose monsters and have remained so (raw) for 10,15,20,25 years of preservation. if you folks would talk facts instead of inuendo it may carry some weight.

You are digging yourself into a hole. Your post was meant and was taken exactly how you intended........nothing more than to defame Don. The following is a quote from your paragraph on Page 1.

"him seeing the obvious, knowing the coin was misted with windex instead of the proper copper procedure"

Then you post this backstepping after you've ticked everyone off.

"i didnt think don knew and i do wholeheatedly feel don is one standup guy just wanting and deserving to have one fine set of lincolns. i INFORMED him of the coin's status, mainly so he's know what to look for on lincs for touble due to this problem. he didnt know, he said so. i believed him, still do"

Personally I have no "beef" with you and could care less how you choose to run your show but coming on here and openly accusing someone of screwing you is out of line. That is something that gentlemen settle between themselves. Besides, Don "one-upped" you,,,,,,,he offered a return.

In a previous post on this thread I reported that I had no problem with a Pepperdoodle's transaction and I wrote:

the coin was nicer than his eBay photo with bright rainbow toning obv and rev on an 1950 proof Washington.

Now an update: the coin was a pf-67 in an NGC slab and I sent to PCGS for crossover. It was crossed as a pr66. this is NO reflection on pepperdoodle's but fits the mold that NGC coins are typically downgraded by PCGS.

When I submitted the coin I indicated on the submission form that the minimum grade I would accept was a pr60.

Im happy, and the coin has been added to my rainbow registry set.

    cheers, alan mendelson
