What is a PCGS MS68 1913 Type 1 Buffalo worth?

The current pop on this coin is 4. The top 3 sets each include one, and I wouldn't be surprised if High Desert has the 4th in his type set.

The reason I ask this is my local dealer just made the 5th example of this coin. The number 2 set is being sold by Bowers in January, so there could actually be 2 available at one time.

For the Type 1 Nickel, there are the 4 (now 5) 1913-p's and 1 1913-S for a total of 5 (now 6).

Thoughts?

  • Better sell it now, by January the price will drop.

Plus that's not taking into account the hundreds of rolls that have yet to be searched and the dozens of more mS68's that'll soon be made.

Didn't know this series was so unpopular. But, now that I look into the numbers it is fairly clear. The number of MS68's has actually dropped in the last 4 years (by 1). Someone probably just spent it instead.

I looked at that coin, online, on the Bowers and Merena website. Man, what a beauty!!! It looks like a great strike to me, but I am definitely not an expert on this series. I would guess high 4 figures for the price. mdwoods

  • No expert either, but Micheals probably very close. This is not an unpopular series it is very strong. There are alot of lower grade sets. Buffs are difficult coins quite a few are notorious for weak strikes. The prices on key dates even in lower grades are substantial. You do not see 1913s in 67 all that frequently for sale. So a 68 is uncommon. I disagree that there are plenty of roles out there for this date that would grade in the 68 range. If that coin has a nice luster that is very desireable. I have seen alot in 66 but the luster just wasn`t there. About 13 months of looking for a 66 and haven`t found one yet. That 13 is defineately worth a little more investigation if I were you.

  • Right you are Dam. But atleast it is worth 0.5 unlike a coin that say is worth 0.2 and can`t even spend it.image

    Edited to say:

You would have to have 2 Two Cents and a Chain Cent to equal one Buffalo. image

A 1913 type1 Buffalo Nickel regardless of the grade, is worth $.05 ?

I can see you clearly don't know anything about Buffalo Nickels.

Your correct in saying this series is very strong and hot, and I might add this has always been a very popular and challenging series to collect.

    caitlin,

Sorry if I ruffled your feathers. I know some don't like having coins offered for sale here, but I didn't think having fun was now against forum policy as well. If you missed it, there was a big (image) smiley after my remark. No insult intended.

And, as a matter of fact, knowing about Buffalo Nickels has nothing to do with the fact their "face value" IS $.05. image

This coin is not being offered for sale on this forum. I was just wondering what it would be worth.
