I can't believe it sold that fast

Last night I put one of my extra 2001 silver proof sets on ebay with a $1 start and just on a lark an $85 BIN. 1
hour later someone hit the BIN and it is gone. I saw the previous thread on the 2001s selling for silly money. It's
not like there is a shortage of these, or is it just a Christmas present spike.

I saw ads in Coin World where people are selling them for $139, so maybe someone thought yours was a real bargain.

Perhaps the front page article in Coin World, showing 2001 Silver Proof Sets going for as high as $125, helped.

in the shop I go to they are selling for $120.00. I'm lucky I got mind in May of 01 $24.99.

I would like to know where CoinWorld got their numbers from. They said the number purchased was in the high 300 thousands. As I recall, you could still buy these things on the mint web site for a few weeks after the 2002 silver set was released (it kind of ticked me off that they remained on sale for so long). If the number quoted in CW is correct, I'd be suprised, then I would expect a large increase in price (more than we've seen so far), that is less than half of any of the other silver sets.

The CW issue has a retraction and shows the mintage at nearly 900k.

Thanks Wayne, I must not have received that issue yet. Think of all the people that went hog wild for a few days buying those things because of what CW reported.
