SLQ and missing date...

I have a SLQ that appears to be bare-breasted, but the date is worn clean. I know that it is running the risk of damage and all, but would the nic-a-date crap work on it? Even if it did, and was one of the oh-so-elusive 1916's, would the nic-a-date ruin it beyond desirability?

Nic-a-date won't work on silver. There are some key features that changed between 1916 and 1917, where libertys head is in the beads around the boarder, the way the skirt hangs and how long the skirt is. I would get a good SLQ book and review that.

Standing Liberty Quarters are nearly the easiest to determine type I or type II, even down to PO-01. If there are stars under the eagle on the reverse, it is type II, no stars, type I and she would be bare breasted.

  • Study and learn the differences between the 16 and the 17 Type 1 because a dateless 1916 will still be worth more than an acid date restored (Damaged) 1916. Same thing is true with the overdate buffalo nickel. There is a diagnostic die on the overdate which is visible even on dateless coins and ANACS will certify them. A certified dateless piece would definitely be worth more than an ANACS certified acid date retored coin.
