Yeah that's really neat. I don't collect those things but I look at them on eBay a lot because I like weird coins like that. Some of them are really fancy.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
That's a really good question - I don't know what would constitute a "love" token per-se, I would think it would more than likely have to have someone's initials "only" on it for it to be considered so, but that's just a wild guess.
It's a really neat one, I can say that much about it.
Hey Biker, it's just what you've been waiting for! Buy it! I think it's really cool.
.....GOD
"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." -Luke 11:9
"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might." -Deut. 6:4-5
"For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; He will save us." -Isaiah 33:22
I'd say that fits the description of a love token.

I would classify this as a love token. I think a love token is basically a coin where one side is completed defaced and replaced with an engraving to commemorate some specieal person/event. This one is commemorating John and his bicycle. Sometimes, they just have initials, other times events and dates. I bought a love token a month or so ago made on a $5 gold piece and I bought it mainly because it had my Birthday engraved on it, Dec, 12, 1908 (wrong year though). Hobo nickels differ from love tokens in that they are alterations, but the basic design stays intact (though there is a different looking man on the obverse, it's still a man. On a love token, usually none of the original design remains on the altered side. Just my opinion though.
A rather simplistic definition, but decriptive nonetheless:
love token - A coin which has been altered by smoothing on or both surfaces and engraving initials, scenes, messages, etc., thereon. (from the CW Almanac, Millenium Edition)
Well someone does have some interest in Love Tokens. I have been buying Love Tokens for my wife for about 25 years. Probably have 40 to 50 of them. Do not find nearly as many as you could find in the 80's. Even have a couple of Canadian Love Tokens.
Why don't we call engraved coins "Love Coins"? Perhaps it's because once engraved they've become a token on love. Why does the license plate on the back of my Harley read, H3FLH? I guess there are some things in life that most people aren't expected to understand.
