Should I give up or keep hoping?indian head cent

Well guys this is the most heartbreaking thing but I have a indian cent I found that I almost threw out as
ruined. While sitting under my table lamp I started to notice a jagged edge (turned out to be feather tips) and I have been soaking it in mineral oil for about 6 weeks. I would say the coin is atleast 25-35% clearer
. The question is do I continue or chaulk it up? I am a newbie and seem to have that dream of finding the
pot of gold. Thanks. Stacobvsrevs

  • HELLO CORROSION!!!

Sorry to say it, but that coin is beyond repair. Even if it was an 1877, it wouldn't be worth more than $50-$60 as a hole filler. Sorry, but keep lookin'!

A bad case of corrosion there...an AG coin at best, even if all the stuff was cleaned off of it. My opinion, it's beyond help.

True, how many "lessons" did each of us have as we got started? 'Course, you still get "schooled" as you go. Just that the lessons get progressively easier to deal with. image
  • Put it into circulation by spending it and maybe you will get someone else hooked on collecting.

I would second JNADAD's idea and spend it. Maybe someone would start collecting because of it. Also, I would take Stewert up on his offer for a Indian Cent. I could almost guarantee that the one he would send you would have a full dateimage .
I've seen his collection and it is the best collection of Indians I have ever seen (and it was next to a couple of super collections for comparison).

The 1877 Indian that my brother found as a kid with the metal detector makes yours look AU. His sat in olive oil for YEARS! Ultimately, he sold it (though I don't know why) to somebody filling a hole for $35.

To top it off, about 20 years later, he found a 1909-S in his yard! That was a nice VF and although it was dark, he was able to trade it for a nice $5 gold piece.
