Yes a Merc can make MS70 if this can make AU !!

Obviously I do not agree with the grade of this Turkey. AU50......NO WAY. Gradeflation for a Key Date. image

What do you think ? Of course my opinion is based on the pictures. Maybe I am blind and just missed some of the detail that should be present.

    Hi Ken,

XF45 at best. Sure looks dark around the mintmark. I was always told to beware of that. JMHO.

Would have to see it in person, but I will say Mercs don't look very good in AU50. The look decent in 55 and pretty good in 58.

  • Not sure if XF is even in order here, due to the fact I cant see the "Three dimentional" on the Diagonal bands.

If one of these has a slightly weaker strike yet plenty of luster, would it be AU50? -Could be the story behind that one.

  • I am thinking it has just too much plain old wear for the grade. I wonder if a bad dip in the past could also account for some of it`s appearence. Just a guess.

Boy, that doesn't look AU to me. I'd give it a VF35/EF40.

I'm in with an XF by the photos. Maybe you have to see it in person?

Never did say what I think it is. XF would work for me from the scans. Maybe XF45 if I saw it in person. Seems to have a little Luster left but heck a XF40 can have that. Someone got a Gift grade at AU50 from PCGS on this one. This date should have a strong strike so I believe it has a slim to zero chance of being just a weak strike.
