Modern grading times

Why do my modern submissions always finish before my pre-64 coins? Why do the hard coins to grade take longer? I.E. Buffs take the full time on everyone of my submissions?

While it's true that modern coins are "easier" to grade than pre-1965 coins, I don't believe that's the reason they are done sooner. We have a different set of graders for modern coins, including one grader who only grades modern coins. The modern flow is such that the modern grading team is able to grade the modern orders quicker.

We watch turn around times very closely and always make sure we have enough "grading capacity." This is especially important now as it looks like 2003 is going to be a banner year for both PCGS and the coin market.
