Digital experts..Can you recommend a good tripod?

I have the Ricoh 4300 and would like to start taking better photo's. Can someone recommend a brand or type to use with my camera. I know several forum members have the same camera I do. Thanks.

I'm not a camera expert by any stretch of the imagination, but what tripods I've used, it does not make any difference what you use. A tripod merely holds a camera steady. Very simple.

I can't give recommendation but just find one that has a smooth mechanism and a good locking swivel force. The cheapies from circuit city will not hold a heavy camcorder at an angle. I almost lost one that way when it fell (pivoted) in a downward angle. Just can't tighten the clamp any tighter.

Edited to add ; just in case you need to use a camcorder in the future that isimage
Need something designed and 3D printed?
  • My problem with taking photo's of coins when using a loupe by my lens, is it's just too hard to hold the loupe steady against the lens and to also press the buttom to take the picture. I guess what I'm asking is what the best tripod to use when taking macro type pictures, or is there one? I know the tripod has nothing to do with the picture taking, but it does help to hold the camera steady.

    Thanks for your replies.

  • Would be good to try a "copy stand" and a real macro lens... FYI. -cr

I like the Velbon brand as they are priced right and small to carry, can get close to a coin and are very sturdy. Available at most Camera stores Nation wide

I use a cheap travel tripod that you can get in any camera store for probably $15-25.
  • If you really want to pony up some dough for a tripod get a Bogen. They are excellent tripods, but they will cost ya a few bucks.
  • Thanks all, time to go shopping on ebay. This gives me an idea of what to use. A special thanks to Russ since he put me onto this camera, and gave me the idea to use the loupe against the lens to enlarge the picture.
