Got my DNC email today, but hey, the service was great....

Once again, 2 monster IHC's in NGC holders failed to cross (DNC). But what the heck, service was great. I submitted them at the 11-21 Santa Clara show and they were done by 12-9-02 (cheapest fare). A similar "super saver" submission for a regrade stayed the same grade. Since they seem to be market grading, perhaps I should submit the hammer price with the coin so they know what the "market" thinks of one of the coins (nearly $2400 for a common date NGC 66R IHC).

With service that fast, who can complain?image

Now that is what I call getting passed a bad moment and looking at the good side! You are the first DNCer here to not complain! Wow! image (no offense to the complainers- their ranting and raving is enjoyable! image)

PCGS really must be gun shy with Indian Cents. It seems that everyone, including me, who has tried to cross a red Indian Cent seems to fail. I know that NGC does not guaranty their copper and PCGS does, but wow. I know that you have some of the best coins around. How about posting some pictures of them so we can at least appreciate them.

<< <i>NGC does not guaranty their copper and PCGS does >>

yet you still see a ridiculous amount of bad copper in their plastic, w/ prob's not mentioned. just my opinion, but pink (not red) indians should not be slabed as problem-free!

Take a look at the front of the Bowers book - it's a nice, pink 1877....IHC's come in many shades of "red", as shown by Shylock.

  • Well Lakes do you think the pink "halo" toning on this PCGS MS65RD IHC is acceptable? Link

Can't tell w/o seeing it in person but looks similar to one of my favorite coins, a 1873 Cl3 S2 in PCGS 65R. It may have sat in a paper holder/roll for some time and toned about the periphery. The problem with 3rd party plastic holders is it makes the edges impossible to examine (the "third" edge is very helpful to examine).

I can guarantee you that if it were in a NGC holder, it wouldn't cross to PCGS!image

edited to add the 2nd para.

    toothpuller,

I didn't see the coin but it appears as original toning that I've previously seen when a coin goes from rose to violet to brown.IMO it is quite attractive

airplanenut - I believe PCGS would cross the coin

When I saw this 1899 NGC 66RD cross to PCGS (assuming it wasn't cracked out) it just further confused me about PCGS's policy. I would have thought an NGC IH that crossed at 66RD would be a screaming 66.9 that would then sell for 2K in the new holder.

Either it's due to a silent quota system, motivated by a need to keep populations and NGC market value down, or NGC plastic is very hard to grade through on most days. Most don't deserve to cross and we're all guilty of preconception. But having seen a few that failed repeatedly compared to a few that passed, I can't find much consistency or logic in this service.
