I know this has probably beeen asked before, but I am now thinking of getting my own, so I will ask. I want to get a digital camera to take pictures of my certified coins to store as sort of a photo gallery on my computer. I have no idea what to get or where to start. I am thinking $300-$500, would I be close?Who makes a good one? I live in the northeast U.S. Thanks in advance.

  • Nikon Coolpix 885 (or a 995 if you can find one, they've been discontinued).

The Ricoh 4300 is what Russ uses... and that says a lot... I heard it has the best macro of any digicam... plus they are about $70-$100!

I will probably get one in January. Here is an example:

  • I have two Nikon Coolpix 990s. I just bought a Nikon Coolpix 4500. The 4500 is two generations beyond the 990.

I have had no problems with the two 990s I have and suspect that I will have no problems with the 4500.

    The 4500 cost me $600.

    Here's two (both sold):

09Svdb, I also just recently asked, a couple of weeks back maybe, and ended up choosing a Sony Mavica FD75. I've been too busy to totally learn it features or fine tune but it works great, and simple as others suggested on recent threads. You can do a search for DIGITAL or CAMERA and you'll see many different theads...some have great suggestions for better imaging & stuff too. Soon I'll TTT so I can follow up.

Adrian that SLQ is so cool, I stared at it for a couple of minutes, mind saying what it sold for and what grade that was?

I still like the Coolpix 995 - heard it's discontinued but just got 300 hits on ebay when I checked. I recently bought a microscope attachment for it and it takes great pics (second photo). Edited to add 2nd pic.
