fully original, thick skinned white! trade dollar ms, gem! something you rarely ever see!

pcgs ms64 for me a 64.99/65!! older holder

too bad there is not the demand there like morgan dollars!

i wonder if these are sleeper coins? and if they will ever awaken?

does this coin have a fundumential reason to rise in value??

any comments??

  • Trade dollars are great values, especially when you find a totally original piece like that one. I would have to agree, that the scan sure does make it look like a MS-65. The values may rise, but the demand for the coin is not as high like you said as Morgans. Dealers can't promote them as much since they are not as common, but type collectors are always looking for a good Trade dollar. This is one of them.

    Nice looking coin, Michael.

Mint state Trade Dollars of that quality and appearance are "sleepers," in my opinion. In fact, I'd like that coin to be sleeping in our inventory for a while!

The most likely "fundamental reason to rise in value" would be an increase in demand, brought about by the awareness of the coin's true rarity in high grade mint state condition. And that increase in demand need not be significant - according to the NGC and PCGS pop/census reports, very few superior examples (nine, to be precise) of that particular issue have been certified higher.

And it's a '74-P to boot! That's a great coin, Michael. It looks like the '74 is finally getting the attention it deserves.

I just love those Trade Dollars and this one is a Beautiful Coin. Thanks for renewing my thoughts on these beautiful coins. I was reading that there are a lot of fakes on the market and one has to be aware of this when going after these Gems.

    Beautiful Coin.

I told Micheal that since it is no longer legal tender but that I would still give him a three dollar bill because he is a nice guy. I am sure Michael thanked me for my generosity. image

i guess coins and collecting and information it is a learning process for all and that is why i really like the hobby of collecting coins it is great really

as far as investment goes there is only one true investor.......

the collector!! who only collects and keeps special coins for years building a collection years and years not even thinking about coins as investments

if you buy coins mostly with an eye for investment you are in for the most part big trouble! based on my 35 years 24/7 experiences in the coin game
