Currency related, sort of off topic

With the exodus of Paul O'Neill will that create a "relatively" rare 2001 series set of bills with his signature on them? I know there are always alot of stories about the "Barr" notes, due to a short lived position in the Johnson staff just before Nixon came into office. I say "relatively" because I'm sure millions if not billions have been printed, but how many will be saved since it was such a short series?

Any thoughts or comments from currency people?

My currency catalog is almost a decade old, but the 1963-B series (Granahan-Barr) 1$ note ranges from $3.50 to $5.00 (in CU condition). There were no other denomications printed with the Barr sig on them. So, not a retirement fund, but not bad for a 1 dollar note from 1963.
  • been holding them for awhile
my Grand dad said they would be worth something some day guess
    he was right
  • Barr was only Secretary of the Treasury for a month as I recall. O'Neill was in the office for almost two years.

Do they stop printing bills with O'Neill's name on it now that he has resigned?

  • Interestingly I found a 2001 $1 Philadelphia mint serial # 00054658, does this qualify as a low s/n?
  • i believe the day he leaves they change the name on the notes
as soon as theirs a new name to replace it
  • 'barr' notes are not rare by any sense but the 'perceived' rarity creates a demand that keeps the market price slightly above those of other 1963 series notes.

i doubt anyone would pay a premium for that note, even in c.u., at this time.

  • usually a premium is paid for 3 digit or less on serial number for the most part.

in the 150 and lower numbered notes get a little more juice than above. I have a few myself.
