OT: Electricity is wonderful and highly underrated...

Serious Ice Storms are overrated and no fun.

We've been in the dark and sub-freezing since Wednesday night. We just got power at 7:00 PM. Whew. The internet came up, too. Whew.

Does freezing your coins cause AT? image

That's not all that was freezing... image

  • If your hands turn red, blue, and purple from exposing it to the cold, is that considered AT?
  • You mean to tell me you don't have a generator that automatically turns on when the electricity goes out and automatically shuts off when it comes back on?? What part of the stone age do you live in Bedrock? image

We were at Lowe's looking at generators today... Serious consideration for the future...

No, that's natural toning. It's only AT if you stick them in he freezer.

  • I'm glad it will be NT image

We only lost a few trees and several old limb baughs. It will be a few days at the chainsaw...

  • Folks up north just don't understand what an ice storm does to the south. Nobody has generators down here. We only need them about every 17 years or so. This was , thankfully a freak occurance in North Carolina. Glad your power is back. I know a bunch of guys went over from the Chattanooga area to clear and repair power lines.

    Ursa,

I got fed up a few years ago and had an electrician install a break-out box, and bought a generator. We were without power till Saturday night. By the time you factor the cost of all of your groceries, firewood, motel rooms, and moving the animals, frozen plumbing, the $1200 I spent looks like a pretty good investment. This is early winter. Sorry about your situation. Greensboro got hammered pretty good too. This morning, there were still 40,000 without power.

Do you really get ice from the sky??? Wow, here in So. California we have to use electricity to make ice, it never comes free. You are so luckyimage

  • It doesn't come from the sky, it grows on trees! At least until its weight exceeds the tensile strength of wood.
