Looks like another scam

Here we have another high ticket item being listed by a new ebay member with 0 feedback. And no scan or PSA cert. number to boot!!

1956 Mantle PSA 10

This is like trying to pass a counterfeit million dollar bill....seems like wasted listing money, but you only need one sucker.

Comments

  • it never mentions PSA or any other grading company in the auction
so it is likely just a raw card the seller "feels" is a gem mint 10 condition.
    imageimage
  • I could be wrong, but he doesn't state PSA anywhere, as far as I can see...

Granted, I'm not bidding on it either, but...
Why do I get the feeling, that some cards are worth money, while others are not?
  • BKAH, I stand corrected. I guess I have been reading so many GEM MINT spam auctions, that I even got spammed into thinking it was graded.

Still......0 feedback + 0 picture = 0 sale - listing fee. Looks like negative cash flow to me.

  • I sent this email to the seller:
Is this a GRADED card? Or unGraded/Raw card?
And if it IS graded, what company graded it?
    ~jeff

and got this response from him (mispelled words included!)

it is a raw card but if graded it will be a psa 10 i promikse u that and if not ill buy it bacdk from u

    What a Tool!
    imageimage
  • Here is the response I got from him: - the grading company is psa 10 i dont have certificate number right off hand cause the cards are in a safety deposit box at a bank sorry about that but if u were to purchase this card i feel u will be very pleased with the card take a look at my other auctions if u buy more than one auction ioll through in a extra rare card.

Is there a PSA 10 in the Pop report....I'm guessing there is not!
  • There are actually 3 - PSA 10s listed in the POP report. I sent the seller a question as well - awaiting a response. I will post it here when I get it.

    JEB.
  • Well, he is claiming to be selling two of them. He's advertising another one in another of his auctions.

I don't know why people bid on this kind of thing.

  • Why do people even bother e-mailing someone like this?

    1) This isn't a scam - it's a guy who has no idea what he's doing, or what grading etc. means. If the guy took a scan of a 56T Mantle PSA 10 and listed it, THAT would be a scam.

    2) You know you're going to get some lame excuse back, either saying pretty much what he did, or "screw off", or some variation. Why bother? You're not going to buy the thing anyhow...
Why do I get the feeling, that some cards are worth money, while others are not?
  • I just checked out all of the auctions he currently has. Seems like he is selling every "hot" card out there all at once.

One of his auctions is for a bunch of graded cards - Here is what his item description states: "THIS LOT WILL CONTAIN SOME OF THE LARGEST AND MOST VALUABLE GRADED CARDS OUT THERE. THE FIRST IS A 1953 MICKEY MANTLE CARD #82 PSA6, A 1956 MANTLE #135 PSA 10 GEM MINT, A 1958 MANTLE PSA 7 CARD #487, 1933 GOUDEY BABE RUTH CARD # 144 PSA 6, A 1934 GOUDEY LOU GEHRIG PSA 7, A 1984 DAN MARINO ROOKIE GEM MINT 10, AND FINALLY A 1996 SPORTS ILLUSTRATED TIGER WOODS PSA GEMMINT 10. I WILL PAY FOR SHIPPING AND INSURANCE ON THESE CARDS."

No reserve on this one and a current high bid of $33.58. Sounds like someone is going to get a great deal. image

While you skeptics stand on the sideline, I plan to snipe this thing with a bid of $112.86. Iwill be laughing all the way to the bank.
  • Vargha - I guess I'm out. I was only willing to go up to $105 maybe $110. I can't afford that kind of cash. I hope you enjoy the cards. image

  • It is a scam. It's not just "PSA-10" on ungraded stuff, he claims to have stuff that he just got back from grading, too. Complete kiddie and/or moron scam.

  • Here is his email reply to me:

hello i would love to send u a scan or picture of this item but my scanner is broken sorry but i strongly believe if u were to buy this item u would be extremely happy with it

    thanks raymond jensen

Now how did I know his scanner would be down??

Crazysc, the reason for emailing is to catch seller in lie, as we have. I am emailing this info to safe harbor. You may not think it is a scam, but ignorance is not an excuse when you attempt to con a buyer.

Vargha, let me know if you are happy with deal (snicker, wink).

If you want to come up I-5 and then take I-90, you can pick me up in Seattle. I would love to see this gem! Maybe we can get Bruce to come along for the ride as well.

I saw where you referred to the "wonderful" shows in Oregon. I spent many a day looking through cards at the Twin Oaks Jansen Beach Show hoping to make a score. That never happend, but at least I could pick up my Card Saver I's for $5 a pack.

    Late1970'sTopps...

Hey Frank...So far I haven't been invited to his vault... When he does, I'll say that my "sport card consultants" will be attending the viewing as well (hee..hee)...

Say.... There's a show coming up on Dec. 14-15 in Kirkland. I usally don't attend mall shows, but it might be fun to meet you and Brucemo, then cherry pick the floor. I'll even buy the hot dogs and Cokes!!!(beer if it's allowed!)

Maybe Saturday for a couple hours???

    Email if you want...

  • I'm in Olympia now, so it's quite a hike to get up to Kirland.

I go to the Tacoma Dome show every time. I'd be happy to meet you (and anyone else) there next time.

By the way, if you want Kelloggs, try Brown's Cooperstown in Fremont. I don't know if any of them are mint, but he has a binder of them.

  • He couldn't even get a scan of these cards, i make a habbit out of keeping scans of expensive cards when i see them (wagner, psa 10 mantles..etc) I use them for desktop backgrounds and such. So i know scans of these cards he claims to have aren't that hard to get.

  • How about this poor guy who might end getting suckered into this card.53 Mantle
Stan Musial topped the .300 mark 17 times and won seven National League batting titles. A three-time MVP, he played in 24 All-Star Games. Probably, the greatest player who is overlooked and underappreciated.
  • I guess once he finally sells one of his cards, he will be able to afford a new scanner.
