Would you have trusted the Toning on this one if it was Raw?

This is an interesting test: Check this Morgan out: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=804572732 I have to be honest. If it was raw I might give it the nod as being AT. Holdered though makes me study it a bit more & checking the reverse and the way the toning blends, makes me think NGC was probably right.

I guess a holdered coin like this does give it credibility that would be easy to have dismissed outside a Service's holder.

You are right, that is a tough one to call. It does have very strong coloring but it also has shadowing on some letters & stars.
Very difficult to tell from the scan because can't see how the luster comes through the toning.

Kind of a pathetic image. I'd say AT, holdered or not, if that's what it really looks like.

I'd probably be at the head of the pack holloring AT. I'd say questionable at the least. It seems like a lot of questionable coins go to NGC because they supposedly "like" toned coins.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

BTW, the shadowing around the stars is not an indicator of AT or not. The process of the metal flowing towards the rim and then up changes the structural alignment of the metal so that it's a mixed bag as to whether toning will adhere to it or not.

Even if the toning is real, I don't like it. Does the slab add credibility? Hardly. Just ask anyone who has unfairly received a bodybag from the services whether they are credible.
