1928-D LINCOLN CENT?

Does anyone have a refereance to a 1928-D/D Lincoln cent?

I just bought a cent and the first D is about half way down the length of the second D. I have the Lincoln RPM book from Dr. Wiles and it does not have a listing. it is MS63 RB!

What you're mentioning sounds just like 1927D RPM#1 except for the date. There's nothing listed to my knowledge that meets your description. CONECA lists one 1928D RPM, and NCADD lists two..but all are minor.

This one has the weak D south of the normal D. The top part of the weaker D is in the middle of the stronger D. The bottom part of the weaker D is barely visible.

    My books don't mention a D/D for 1928 either.Just maybe you've found a new variety.

  • I agree with the others. My books don't have a 1928D/D either (probably the same books.) I would definitely have an expert look at it. Sounds like you've got something there. Good luck! image
  • Tony, I have a book written by Frank Spadone, who lists two (2) 1928 double MM. One is shown as a double MM and the other is a double MM and microscopic double date. This book was published is 1981.
Value is listed at UNC of $30.00 and $35.00 respectively, of course is 21 years old and way!!!!out of date.
    No picture are shown, sorry!

I'm not sure I would count on anything ever listed by Frank Spadone.

There are a few 1928D RPMs listed with the clubs, but they are not published in mainstream press. None of them sound like what is described in this thread, though.
