Nice late die state piece! Good detail for it, too. In person, does it look cleaned/retoned? The picture suggests that to me.

Well neil i won't know until i have the coin in my hands. I did consider that it could be cleaned and retoned but i didn't care to much as to me it seems to have good appeal and will sit just right in my book.
They are getting hard to find even in ruff condition.

I might be in the minority but I really don't think of this as a problem coin. Certainly, one cannot tell what type of luster is present, nor can one be sure of the actual color of the coin, however, it doesn't look scrubbed from what I can tell and the color could have come from an album. That type of toning is not uncommon for this series.

  • looks like a very nice Bust half to me. I agree with Tom here, this series is notorious for old cleanings, finding a truly original bust half is quite a challenge.

I agree it is becomming a challenge. My eye was pulled to the bottom of the number 2 as i believe it is one of a few different Var's. I will have to pull out the book and study it later today to see if i am right.

high-end xf, doesn't seem to have the 50% luster necessary for au, but beatiful coin, would value at about $120.

I figured it for XF. The seller stated AU+ but i didn't think so I paid under $110.00. I like it and best of all i get to put it in a real slab with staples around it before placing it in my Home made Collecting Album.
    What a Great Hobby!!!!!

I don't know diddly squat about that series, but that seems to be an amazing coin to be had for that amount of money. Even though I don't collect it, the Bust coinage has always been in the back of my mind. Very nice!!
  • Very nice Bust Half and I am a big fan of these! It looks to be a weak strike, cleaned AU55 to me.
  • In addition to the previous comments, it's also an interesting year with 49 different varieties.
I am no longer looking for an 1815/2
