Has anyone done business with Spectrum before?

What did you think of the company if you did. I hear they are a reputable dealer, but I haven't dealt much with the west coast people...

I asked them if they were interested in a pop 1, finest known by 3 points, MS67 seated rarity. They told me that they really had no outlet for that. That sort of blew my bubble as from all the ads you get the impression they are the ultimate buyer for anything,
especially truly rare coins as this one was. They did not even want to see the coin.
At the 2002 FUN show I was looking to buy some nice type from them but they were way too busy to bother with me and seemed rather annoyed that I was there. I had come back several times to try and hook up with one person who showed/priced these coins.
I practically had to beg them to show me a pair of coins that were in my area of interest (one was an 1877cc half in PCGS67) but the prices were out of my range valuewise. I spent about 1 minute with the salesman as I could clearly see he was busy to get back to other things. Ironically, I bought another superb gem 77cc half at the show and spent a fairly good hunk of money. From what I've heard since, Spectrum's thing is pretty much dealer to dealer transactions.

P.S. I have had quite a few dealings with Spectrum. I know Dale Larson and Bobby Hughes. Both honest guys. I have not had any problems.
Just make sure you pay their invoices on time and return any rejects promptly, as you should do with everyone.
I had dinner with Bobby Hughes in Baltimore. He told me an abreviated version of his life story.
He was in coins 40 years ago. He can tell good stories for hours. Man, I gotta tell you, that guy has done been around.
Quite an interesting career!

1st time, i acted like i didn't know much about coins, offered them a 1922-plain previously in a (proplerly graded) ngc-35 holder. their offer? 275 bucks. 275! that's practically vg money! the guy was a creep too (don't know his name). what a joke, so i walked the coin over to heritage, right next to spectrum, & sold the coin for $500.
prior to that, i wanted to dump some dupliate bust halves, all original coins, if not the best grades, & their offer was so absurd i told the guy i'd buy everyone he had at that price plus 25%. he sneered, turned around & walked away. yuk.
king of cash my foot, maybe king of stealing cash.
my only 2 experiences, take it for what it's worth. hope you have better luck.

BTW, I was over at Spectrum yesterday picking up a few coins and working with Dale. He happened to have his MONSTER PCGS COLOR WALKER SET WITH HIM FROM 1941-1947. All I can say is "WOW"!! I have no doubt when Dale sells some of those "color" Walkers, the prices will shatter prior prices known on those coins. Wondercoin
