Dull, no shine?

I have a 2000-D Roosevelt that lacks any sort of luster. I posted earlier that I thought it might be missing a clad layer, but I think I was mistaken. It looks uncirculated as there are no wear marks on the high points, but it appears dull and grey. Is there a "coating" on modern clad coins that this one might be missing? Is there anything particularly "special" about a coin that lacks this coating? It is weakly struck, more like this, but not being an error collector, I just don't know if I should be excited or indifferent. I appreciate any comments. Thanks!

It looks a bit off center and a bit weakly struck. What is its dimensions? How do they compare to a standard dime or nickel?

It seems centered well enough, and it is the same diameter of another regular 2000-D dime. The dull dime does seem thinner than other dimes, though it still has the clad appearance (the redish and silver sandwiched look). I weighed it on a gram scale and there was a slight difference in weight, but only by a very small fraction. To me, it doesn't seem chemically altered. The dullness reminds me of a circulated Barber dime. Hope this helps.

  • Maybe it got struck thru some grease or crud on the die.
  • Some1 may have dipped it over and over

Thanks for the responses so far. I'm not so sure that it was struck through grease on the die because the dull grey is even on both sides. As for dipping over and over, lol, somebody must have had way too much time on their hands. I weighed the 2000-D Roosey and compared it to a normal one of the same year and here is what I found:

    Error coin - 2.23 grams
    Normal coin - 2.26 grams

This difference may be negligible, but I sure am curious about this coin! Thanks.
