Neat find!

I was reading about the Roosevelt 1982 no "P" error and decided that I should go through my change bucket. I found one 82', but it has a very nice "P". Oh well. What I did find was enough to get my heart going though. I sorted out the older looking coins hoping for silver and found a 2000-D missing a clad layer! Sorry, no pictures image. It's very dull looking on both sides. On the obverse, the "I" in "In" and the "W" in "We" are weakly struck as well as the last "0" in "2000" which is nearly missing completely. On the reverse, the words around the perimeter are weakly struck on top of the letters, closest to the edge of the coin. It sure seems like this dime on eBay. I'm not very educated about errors so I could be way off, but I've never seen a 2 year old dime this dull. Anyone have any other ideas about what it might be? Thanks. image

  • I have found 2 of these in circulation....2001 D and a 2000 D
2000 D is missing the reverse clad layer and looks broadstruck on the obverse.
2001 D is missing clad layer on obverse.....very pretty.
I also found a Sacagawea missing its manganese layer on the reverse 2000 P.
Fred Weinberg has a few of these Sac's for sale $850.00- $975.00

These are the weights that I have come up with:

My error coin - 2.23 grams
My normal coin - 2.26 grams

It doesn't seem terribly significant to me, but who knows? I plan on bringing it in to my local coin dealer on Mon. to see what he has to say about it. If nothing else, it's been fun to research in an area of coin collecting that I know nearly nothing about. image I hope your dimes are rare!
