Goose3 - here are some FE 1857 S16 closeups...

Goose3 mentioned yesterday he had found a S16 1857. Here is a closeup that show convincing evidence of a MPD punched twice into the eagles face and neck. The bases of the "8" (just behind the mouth) and "5" (in the neck) are most apparent/obvious. The more angular raised mark is a "7" base, the second one less apparent. The base of the "1" in the mouth is very tough to see in person.

Goose3 - see my post from yesterday - bought a attachment that connects the Coolpix 995 to the microscope.

That's the best image I've ever seen for illustrating this variety. The texture of the eagle design makes the MPDs so tough to pick out in lower resolution pics. Great job!

I think seeing it in color helps - the B+W photos lose something "in the translation".

After looking at my book and looking at your picture there is no comparison!
I think I'll right click on that baby and save a copy!

    BTW Tim,
I saw a Coolpix (dunno the #) at Target yesterday marked 1/2 off. It Was 400.00 normally.

DO you have any pics of the '57 with the reverse clashed with a 25c?? that is the only one I now need.

    How about the
1857 seated quarter clashed with a FE?

Where did you get the attachment for the Coolpix 995/Microscope and how much was it? Incredible up-close pictures.

The enclosed instructions listed this web page:

    www.appliedscientific.com

It was $60 - alot of money for a machined piece of plastic!
