Count Backwards!! "70" should be Poor and "01" should be Perfect!!

As long as we've coming up with nifty ideas (less sales talk- more coin talk) here's my idea: why not reverse the grading scale? Shouldn't a ONE (first place) coin be the Perfect one?
70th (place) should the LAST.

PCGS: You're allowed to use this idea to its maximum benefit- I don't even expect anything in return.
Hurry though. Rumor has it NGC monitors these boards. . .

Why come up with ideas that are "upside down". Lets come up with a new grading scale, say 1 to 100 with 100 being perfect (100%).

    Who counts backwards from 70?

WWQ- Alright, so you came up with the ONE (fatal) flaw to my logic.

  • I've always liked the idea of a 1-100 grading scale.

Here's one way to implement it...leave the existing scale
from FA01 to AU58 as is. Grades of 60 or better would
be reserved for MS and PR coins, and broken down into
four categories, strike, luster/mirrors, marks, and eye appeal.

Each category would receive a grade from 0 to 10, which
would be added to 60 to come up with the final grade.

    So a a high-end coin could grade MS94 (8, 9, 8, 9). This
certainly complicates things, and is as subjective as always,
but would serve to educate by breaking the grade down into
    components.

If you submit a perfect-looking proof hoping for a grade of
    MS100, and it comes back MS99 (9, 10, 10, 10) you would
know that it was a not-quite-full strike that held it back.

    Prediction:

Within 5 or 10 years, PCGS or NGC will institute a 100-point
grading system. It will prove to be popular, and the other
will follow suit shortly thereafter. It wouldn't even surprise
me to see them switch simultaneously, with mutually ageed
upon definitions (not to be confused with grading standards).

It will be good for the grading services, as they will realize
a steady stream of income for a couple of decades due to
all of the regrades. The dealers will like it as well, as there
will be plenty of room to play the crackout games.

This will necessitate starting the pop reports again from
scratch. I hope they will do something to insure the integrity
    this time!

Not to embellish the thought but this would be a fantastic idea if they can do it in 5 seconds. LimageL
