Superior Auction ends tonight

Well is everyone ready for the bidding tonight? I cant decide on whether to get the 1971 Greatest Moments or some of those 1967's. I wish I had 1967 in bulk I would of tried that set. Its a nice looking set.

I am bidding on two cards and I think I should win one. You never know though .........

  • I've got my eye on 1 card, but we'll see whether or not I bid aggressively enough to get it.

Max bid on 1 card has been placed
  • Max bids of 5 cards already in place. Maybe, maybe not on whether they hold up.

I'm just avoiding the White Letters -- they all look pretty crappy, and word on the street is that they are fairly easy to find

  • I had my eye on one lot... but with the extra penalty of California Sales Tax, it has gone beyond the range I was willing to go...

Had a PSA 9 football card I was watching. SMR is $ 150.00.

If I bid now, my minimum would have to be $ 265.00. image

Oh well, I have an 8 of the same card that is just as good, if not better. image

  • Not much hockey to choose from. However, there is one card I am watching. So far the prices are quite strong.

Good luck to everyone bidding tonight.

  • I wanted that same card Wolfbear - I will be staying away, too much money.
    Next time, maybe.

  • Well, I guess I wasn't aggressive enough with my bidding last night, as I was about $100 short on the '67 Tony Perez. Oh well, better luck next time.

Did anyone else notice last night that they didn't have to give their password when they bid over the phone? Just seemed a little strange to me.image

    I finally won something!!!!image

    I won lot #'s 749 + 754.

I'd love to know if any one else won any lots. Schmidty, did you win any of the Phillies from 1967.
I was tempted on bidding on the Tony Taylor. I figured for Sky that it was for a good cause.
But I decided to save the money for the Ft. Washington show this weekend. I did bid on the Phillies
checklist from 67 but did not win. Also, strong prices for the Psa 8 red man Snider and Rizzuto.

I won the 67 Yaz PSA 7 and I lost out on the 73 Rose PSA 9 at the last minute - I guess that is OK as I probably could not afford it.

Here is a question, do we tend to bid higher on a Superior Auction than we would normally pay at a show or on eBay? I think I do. For some reason I get more determined on these auctions than anything else.

I won a couple of the 1971 Topps Greatest Moments cards last night. Looks like this set has started heating up. From the looks of the current sales on Ebay to last nights performances, there are many more participants than I expected. What do ya'll think about the 1962 topps set that sold? I think it did very well.

Santa came 20 days early. I won 23 - 1967 cards. No HOF's, mainly commons. I also won a beautful 1968 Clemente PSA 9. I was very happy with the results.

Gotta, run....I have go sell my platlets, collect aluminum cans, and wash windshields at the streetcorner so that I pay for all of this. image

  • Won the 1975 starter set and 4 1952 PSA 7's. Pretty happy lost some good ones but you cant win them all.

  • I picked up a few 70 and 71 PSA 9's, but lost out on some 71 Topps Greatest Moments.

    Chris,
Thanks for bidding on the 1971 Topps Greatest Moments. I paid about triple what I needed to on those. image Actually, I know you did not win the 1971 Topps Greatest Moments Brooks Robinson PSA 8, however if you are interested in making the set I have an extra one.

  • I thought the '62 Topps set went very well. It went for more than SMR even though it was missing quite a few low and no pop cards, plus missing the Maris, F Robinson, and 598 rookies among others. Plus the 62 set is not a hot set among collectors, at least based on the number of people who seem to be pursueing it on the Registry. It makes me feel better about my '61 set.

Browsing through the items it looked like this auction was a great one for high grade collectors. Especially liked some of those PSA 10s offered and the high grade 71 Topps Greatest Moments--some sharp cards.

    Didn't bid on anything, though.

I went steep on the 71 Greatest Moments. Didnt win any. I won 1-1967 card.
  • I won a bunch of 1969 PSA 9s and a couple 1960 PSA 8s. I bid on a lot of 1969 PSA 10s, but I guess not nearly high enough. I know Chris R. must have outbid me on the 1970s. All in all, I'm satisfied with my wins.

I have a number of psa 8 GM's and a few very sought after 7's (ie, Killebrew)
let me know if you have rethunk the SMR vs. reality issue.
  • I have started to buy 8's for my 1970 set as most of the 9's that seemed to be offered today I have. I also spent a lot of time at the Philly show looking through some common books to buy some ungraded cards that I need and found about 40 that have a shot at an 8 or a 9. If you have any cards I need in 8 or better, let me know (I have the Killebrew in an 8 already).
