Coins I Would NEVER Sell.....How About You?

I know, these are a couple of Dogs.

But even if they where GEM I wouldn't sell them. The sentimental value is worth much more to me.

The Half Dollar was my Great Grandfathers and the Dollar was my Grandfathers.

Are there any coins that you have that are worth more to you than $$$’s?

Yes i would never part with this one for that very reason. PS: Check out that nose The Nose could be from die fileing but breen says that this didn't happen until the next year 1831 Makes me wonder because under 30x loupe it sure looks like the die's were filed to cause that nose to look like that. This coin is now Holdered in a PCGS slab graded AU55 Large 0 21055946

  • I have a morgan dollar and a kennedy half I wouldn't part with for similar reasons.

The coins my grandmother gave me are gems. Price of them in an NGC holder - $20. Price of them in a PCGS holder - $25. Price of them in Grandma's cigar box - Priceless!
Some refer to overgraded slabs as Coffins. I like to think of them as Happy Coins.

My 1942/1 Mercury and my 3 legged Buffalo were gifts from my wife, I will never sell them. When I'm gone one will go to each of my children. image

In the early 70's when I was 8 years old, my Dad was going through an old plastic mustard container full of circulated silver coins that my Uncle had saved from his days working at the post office. My Dad gave me a 1943 Merc and it got me started collecting. It's in VF and worth maybe 50 cents. But in my 8 year old handwriting I wrote on the back of the flip "Do not trade or sell". I guarantee you will never see it in the BST forum.

......this one sat in the local shop case for a while till i finally brought it home during the middle of a recent AT debate. i'm still not sure about it, but it sure is pretty and weird at the same time. the fields are PL and held at one angle it looks almost black and at another the obverse color seems to surround Anna's head. i figure i'll keep her!!image

  • 4 Morgans, three Peace dollars and two Franklins. Common dates and toned rather dark but I will never get rid of these as I was given one a year as a birthday present until my grandmother died.

Keets Actually the toning looks nice and even and rich. I would say thats a nice Lady there. is that a 78? any mint mark? Any VAM VAr's?

    hey MrK

it's a 78-S and i'm not to well informed on VAM numbers. dog97 has told me to get the book but i've resisted his pleadings thus far. to be honest, i need to lay off my coin purchases and buy some more reference books. every bit of "edge" helps!!image

I believe there are like 17 minor variations showing minor doubling at least 9 var's are noted on the obv for minor doubling Breen wasn't really detailed so look it over for minor doubling. There is a lot more but it is to detailed to go into here. I really need to get that vam book myself.

    Hello,

I have an 1879-CC Morgan Dollar that I inherited from my great uncle Jim, the guy I was named for. That's my sentimental coin!
