Sorry, but I find it somewhat deceiving when someone says "No Reserve" and the coin has an opening bid of $1,500.

Not picking on you, since many sellers and forum members do this, but I personally find it distasteful.
  • Just asking - but how should the coin be listed?

  • Just a personal opinion, but when a coin is listed as No Reserve, yet has a large opening bid, the bid (in this case $1500) is your reserve.

  • Thanks Keith - That does make sense and I think you are right.

Greg - I think you are right and I should not include the No Reserve. Will edit the thread.

I agree with Greg - it is a common practice, but deceptive.

I went to bid $500 on it, but found out that didn't met the reserve price of $1500.

How about listing it as "$1500 Reserve" - or omit the reference all together.

I think no reserve is fine. Putting a minimum or opening bid establishes the initial level. By saying no reserve you are indicating that a bidder who puts a higher bid than the opening is the winner as long as no one of else bids. This is no different than any no reserve auction without an initial minimum. When I click on the auction there might already be bids higher than I want to go, so I am disappointed. Frankly, I object to reserve auctions, because I don't like to give away my hand to someone who is just using me to establish a market value. Saying no reserve indicates that is not the case with the auction.

  • I think it's perfectly acceptable to list as "no reserve". The price stated is the opening bid price. I think most understand that you can't open bidding below the opening price. At least you don't see that stupid "reserve not met" sign wasting your time. You know going in what the minimum price to bid is.
